i'm a big fan of documentaries and just now found this not released surf doc that looks pretty fascinating:

http://www.snagfilms.com/splinters

Splinters is the first feature-length documentary film about the evolution of indigenous surfing in the developing nation of Papua New Guinea. In the 1980s an intrepid Australian pilot left behind a surfboard in the seaside village of Vanimo. Twenty years on, surfing is not only a pillar of village life but also a means to prestige. With no access to economic or educational advancement, let alone running water and power, village life is hermetic. A spot on the Papua New Guinea national surfing team is the way to see the wider world; the only way.

That sounds really interesting Justin! I much prefer stuff like that with a bit of depth. I bought Innersection II recently and found the relentless air reverses into the wind. section after section, got boring pretty quick...

Yeah, that is a good one. His barrel riding is top 3 in the world and his above the lip stuff would have to be up there too. Every wave in that movie is crazy.

Yeah, that's another good one, kdropin.
Sipping Jetstreams and Castles In The Sky are a couple of my recent faves. As well as One Track Mind and older classics like the Momentum films, Shelter and 5th Symphony Document. September Sessions is a beauty too.
Dane's Thrills Spills is cool in a quirky way, and The Drifter and Melali are enjoyable watches, Drive Thru Europe gets a notable mention too!

I'm on my phone so can't see it, I'm guessing it's the Mickey Smith - Dark Side Of The Lens clip? If its not, check it out. He's a very talented guy from my area. I think he spends most of his time in Ireland and West Aus now though shooting Fergal Smith.

My favourites are (at the risk of categorising myself as a closet 'soul dude') are 'single fin yellow', 'glass love' and 'one California day'. Barely a contemporary move in any of them. Single fin yellow is about long boarding and I don't longboard much! Great surf film though.

That's got to be the best 7 minutes of surfing footage I've ever seen. So dramatic... So good seeing how well the ride is going and then watching frame by frame as it deteriorates into the worst situation possible. Then watching them skidding down the face on their backs looking up and the lip in super slow motion is insane. Imagine what is going through their heads!

How did surfing ever get to a point where guys are willing to put themselves into those situations, and how did no one die that day!
