I was talking to JaM71 on the telephone about new board choices and brought up the likelihood of Baked potatoes already being available in Australia.
He's down the Gold coast and so suggested he give Firewire at Currumbin a call.
Just got a text from him leaking the news that there are Baked potatoes in the warehouse.
Can't wait to get my mitts on a demo.
Hoohaa!

After seeing an Activator in my local surfshop while people on the forum were lamenting the fact they hadn't been released yet I figured it was worth checking.

I noticed that the the Baked Potato is officially visible on the website now, but they are only displaying it in RapidFire. Does this mean that it will not be offerred in FST initially? Chris?

Just got my Baked Potato here in the Americas several days ago. The word here was that it was only available in Rapidfire....

yeah that is all we are building currently. FST Baked Potato will be early 2013 at this point. Have a few other priorities ahead of it.

Cody, I'd be looking at the 5'5 if I were you. As for availability times, you'll have to wait for Chris on that one!

yeah cody I agree on the size suggestion from PRJ.
As for availability, we have a few here with a quad setup in rapid-fire tech that we can fill special orders, but we aren't putting a ton at inventory for another few weeks. The Potatonator is going out in force right now and the rapidfire baked potato will come next!! If you want to place an order through a shop you can email me and I'll help you through the process.
Cheers and hope this helps!

A pretty thick crowd on it when I drove by at 3:00 this afternoon. Kind of a nasty wind too. I hate June.

Maiden voyage on the BP this morning. Like my old friend the SP but with a bit more spark if that's possible. Super fast and loose. Catches waves easily. What else is there?

06-17-2012, 08:11 AM
pagey are the low range on the two the same?
pagey
06-17-2012, 09:30 AM
My impression is that the range is going to be similar to the SP. The BP was flying on waves that were thigh high and chest high this morning. I have 5'2" and 5'4" SPs. The BP is 5'3" with the width of the 5'4" and the thickness of the 5'2". I will give another report when I surf it again, but if you are already familiar with the SP, transitioning to the BP will be a breeze. Also, this board is one of the lightest ones I have ever had. Definitely worth looking into.

Thanks, but I'm not sure about the ripping part. Sometimes the back and knees don't want to do what they used to, but things seem to go well enough on most waves. As I get older, I want to go fast more than anything else, and Firewire has been helping me do that since the first Dan Mann twin fishes! Thanks, Firewire!

Hey Pagey, I m waiting on a 5'3 baked - can you tell me what fins you used. I was thinking of controllers (based on the feedback on the sweet) but was wondering what you were using?
Chris
06-18-2012, 08:53 AM
scotty the controllers are great fins. They have a lot of positive area and drive. Nice and fast. They aren't super free such as fins like SF4s or K2.1s so go with the controllers if you want down the lines speed. Go with a smaller fin if you want to do little spins and other tail free maneuvers...

Scotty, I can't recommend the Controllers enough. Drive, speed, and plenty loose. I have gone through lots of expensive trial and error. Chris is right, as usual.

Thanks Guys for the feedback. Appreciate it. I may try the controllers first and look at some other fins later.

Hey - just thought I'd let you know the board turned up today - can't pick it up until tomorrow. The guys at Slimes told me that it is a 5 fin board. Sweet - (I thought it was going to be a quad looking at the photos on this site) can't wait to try it out and can mix up the fins a bit with the quad/thruster set-up. There is no swell around this weekend but will go for a grovel over the weekend after I pick it up. Pagey is yours a 5 finner as well???.

All Sweet and Baked Potatoes are quads.

06-24-2012, 04:54 AM
On the website they re a quad, but they re turning up in aus with a five fin set up. I just sold my sweet p and picked one up, using the rasta fins......but will have to invest in a futures thruster set. Any ideas which would go best? The five fin set up is an unexpected bonus!
prjwebb
06-24-2012, 04:56 AM
That is cool!
I'm not sure how well that wide tail will work as a thruster, i'm thinking quad plus nubster as a better option

Unless I just bought a 5"3x21 1/4x 2 3/8 potatonator with a baked potato sticker on it!

Probably have more success with the FAMT's (The Black Merrick twins) and trailer like I use in my p'nator.
If you want to try it as a thruster just get a cheap centre fin, either buy or loan one from a surf shop.
I was having fun with the EA blackstix and deviant fin until the last huge swell followed by lake-like conditions.

Hey i was a bit worried after prjwebbs post that it may have been the potatonator especially when it is a quad on the website - it is definately the baked with 5 fins and it goes great. On my 1st two surfs it picks up waves better than the sweet even though it is basically the same volume as the 52 sweet. So far lovin it and cant wait 2 have a few more surfs - goes, turns, and paddles well for a small wave board - think it will get better with a few more surfs.
Chris
06-25-2012, 08:24 AM
Yeah guys the baked potato was initially designed to be a quad and we made the running change to add a center fin so all of them being built currently have 5 fins.
Hoe this helps!!

I'm a mobile fin tree.
Just got up early to check the bouy readings (Mooloolaba) and they've hit 7-8 metres again just like the last big swell from 2 weeks ago.
The wind is from the Sth and if it stays like that it is going to be on at my local with no need to go to Noosa.
Suncoastslop picked a hell of a time to:
A. Register on the forum with his handle.
B. Pick a sweet potato as an allrounder for the Sunshine coast.
C. Get injured and miss the last swell and for all I know miss this one as well.
Are you out there Suncoastslop?
The best Autumn and early winter of waves for the poor old Sunshine coast in how long?
