Here's my Taj I have on order

The plan was to make a Taj a little shorter, wider and more forgiving to allow me to surf it in a wider range of conditions. I'll post pics of the finished board once I receive it.

6'0" x 18"13/16 x 2"3/8
Nose width 11"9/16
Tail width 14"3/4
Volume 28l
FCS fins
Black pin lines around the balsa like the ...Lost models (fingers crossed)

Anyone else ordered any? How do you like it? Any pics? If not, any plans to order one?

sicky sicky...
I like that one.

I did wonder if the tail wide point at 12" up was a little wide @ 14.75". It does have quite a bit of width down there and as a result a lot of curve in the back third. Nev did suggest thinning it to 14.5" but the order had already gone in and I didn't want it to end up too narrow...
Hopefully it'll allow it to work in slightly weaker conditions without limiting it when there's plenty of power.

oh man, don't sweat that. I'll tell you, the Michel I am riding is a bit of a prototype and has a little extra width and chunk than the final specs, but with rocker like that it riiiips to the point where the added widths will only increase versatility.

cheers

Hi Chris

Will the Michel Bourez Pro Model have the performance of the Taj Pro but able to work in a lot more different wave types?

I love the Taj when waves are good, clean and punchy but when there is a bit of chop on the face it doesn't handle it well like other boards do....ie the Hellfire.

I am waiting to decide on getting a custom Taj Pro (above looks great btw), a HellRazor or the Michel Bourez Pro model.....

Can't wait for the Spartans board, suits my style to the tee. more chunk in the tail for power hacks.
Will the spartan's board have the springer insert?
and for a custom Taj can you order one without the springer?

cheers chris

Hey Chris will the Spartan be thinner? I saw the 6'0" R&D Spartan on Surfride's sight, at 2 9/16 thick its a bit too thick. I think 2 3/8 would be the ticket. The width is perfect at 18 3/4.

Seems like we'd be looking at the 5'10 at 2 7/16. That's what Chris is riding. I was going to wait out for one but ended up going with the Taj as ultimately the Spartan is going to be too short for me as a hpsb and a little too thick.
Once it comes to the CBD though, it's on!!

yeah. The Michel is a beefier high performance shortboard for sure. you definitely ride it a bit shorter. Will be a preference thing....

Hi prj

I am from cornwall UK and I fancy a bit CBD action. I see you are also in kernow and have ordered a board via CBD. In the CBD pages it says that the service is only available US, OZ or Japan. I was wondering if yourself or chris could tell me how to go about getting a board shaped and shipped to england. Thanks.

I'm getting mine shipped to a US address and then picking it up from there I'm afraid. Hopefully the CBD will be launching in Europe this year though, I think it was originally planned for last year. Maybe Chris will have some more info on that.

Haha, look at it this way, the longer you leave it the more models could be available!

Well I got my hands on my CBD today, it's been a bit of a wait due to logistics but I've got to say, it was so worth it.
Firstly, the finish looks flawless. Cracking job by the folks in the factory. Outline came out even better than I thought it would. Nice bit of width through the mid section but the nose and tail are still all business. Feels like enough foam for average days and not just the pumping perfection that the Taj model is usually associated with. The slightly fuller rails than my 6'2" look like they'll compliment this nicely too.
Here's a quick couple of shots, I'll get more in depth once I've surfed it at least once!

Yeah good video Iggy!
Snapped a couple of shots of my CBD and Sub in the sun earlier. Should be a nice shoulder - head high, light offshore wave on wednesday so I'll get to surf it instead of stroking it at last haha.

Haha, it's no secret, I pamper my boards!
The CBD looks almost as wide and full in the tail as the Sub, but the actual tail block is a lot narrower. Shame that got cut off in the photo.

Hey what's the bottom decal on the Taj

prjwebb
03-20-2012, 03:22 AM
It's the ShapeLogic CBD decal.
This time tomorrow hopefully she'll be on her maiden voyage. Though I'm currently in work with a aching back and flu imminent.

I'll be loading up on lemsip and pain killers for the next couple of days then...

I'd maybe take it down to 2.31" thickness also. Will loosen the flex up a little more to get that extra rocker and squirt in the pocket.
From riding the 2.31" sub I think that's plenty of thickness for those boards that hold the thickness out to the rails for guys our size Chris.

Looks like a fun shape though, I considered the same thing but with the Spitfire.
Also check out the 5'10" Alt at 2.31" thick with all widths maxed out. I want to order that and sell the Sub once I've got the Potato for fatter days......

Chris
03-20-2012, 12:05 PM
the limitations of the program don't let you take it down any thinner as they stand now. Honestly though I feel 7 hundredths of an inch on a hybrid isn't really going to change the flex a ton. This will ultimately replace my Hellfire.

prjwebb
03-20-2012, 01:45 PM
Will be a fun one no doubt.
I would be interested to hear what the crew thought about my suggestion to use different model rocker beds for an extra CBD option. I think Bruce said he'd mention it in the next meeting.
That thinner Dom outline with something like the Alternator's rocker could be a mental little pocket rocket.

Chris
03-22-2012, 12:06 PM
yeah we talked about it, but we achieve different rockers by offering shapes designed around that particular rocker. For example, we are confident a Taj works with a Taj rocker and Spitfire works with a Spitfire rocker, but to offer the Spitfire with a Taj rocker puts out a board that we don't know any about. So therefore, we don't really think that is a great thing to offer. We would rather put good, tried and true shapes up that have their own rocker profiles as a way of varying "rocker selection."

Its a good thought!!!

Real similar to what I was planning but mine was 510 x 19" x 2.38"

I reckon it'll be an insane board!
