Hey nev. a bunch of the local pros here in nj (Sam hammer and mike Gleason to be exact. Gleason is a volcom guy who gets some nice video shots in Hawaii in the winter. ) have been riding some retro rocket type models in some serious winter barrels. I guess lost has the new rock up model. Short Pin tail. Wide nose ect. These guys only ride this on heaving head to double overhead barrels. I guess the idea is to get into the wave turn and hold on. Any chance fw might develop a similar barrel riding machine. I know you mentioned the Dom as a rocket type version. In the winter steep fast and hollow is common place.

Hey guys.

I am contemplating purchasing a sweet potato/baked potato. The shapes look amazing!

However, I am concerned about the firewire technology. I have heard about horror stories with these boards snapping under very strange circumstance, like duckdiving a small wave, by multiple people.

I would appreciate if someone/anyone could watch this video, read the comments for further info regarding these potential problems, and comment here about how the technology performs.

This is a big investment for me and I want it to last a long time. These boards look amazing but I have fear about the technology from these stories. I understand boards break but these stories seem to break in strange ways and are consistent enough to make me consider going the tried and true PU route.

So please, help is needed and I'd appreciate honest comments.

Thanks. I hope this works out and I hop on a potato soon.

I sold all my boards & bought a new 6'2 Dominator as my primary board.. i and am just back from C. Am .. very good waves for a week BUT, i missed about 50% of my waves competing with brazilians, scrappy locals, and myself!

the Dominator 6'2 surfed great & my first time on a quad, i really liked it ... but, I need bigger .. any recommendations from the Firewire crew .. should i go with a Dominator 6'4, 6'6 or, perhaps an Elf 6'5 ? I definitely need more volume for my 'turn, pop/paddle & go' style ..

Hey all, very close to getting my first Spitfire. Have been reading all I can on sizes etc. and I reckon I'm right between 5'8 and 5'10. I am 6'1 tall, 82 Kgs = 180 Pounds (hope to be 2kg lighter soon), 49 years old, inter to inter/advanced, fit for my age.

My current board is a CI pod 6'0, which I broke last week (creased wiping out in 5ft close-out barrel) and is being repaired. I've been really happy with it but want to get something a little more edgy and radical but also for small days. The 6'0 pod paddles awesome and catches waves really well, and I'm sure I should have gone a bit smaller in the pod, probably 5'10 if I got another one. I am a very experienced surfer, can surf anything pretty well, but would classify my style as smooth and fast but not radical and vertical. I want a board that can help me change this style and push the critical and vertical stuff more.

So I'm pretty sure my decision is between 5'8 and 5'10. The other one I would like opinion on is FST or Rapidfire. I have had a 6'8 FST alternator (way too big I know) and I do like the FST technology and delayed spring, but never tried rapidfire. Love the look of the rapidfire, love that bamboo deck. After breaking the pod I'm quite keen to have strength but I wouldn't want to compromise weight for it. Which is lighter and does rapidfire last well or is it better to spend a bit more on the FST which will live a bit longer?

Thanks in advance for any opinions or suggestions :).

Im in a bit of a predicament trying to decide what to do, so I thought id pester all you guys again as I do love a good discussion haha.
Im off to France in September, Iv got my 6'3 RF flexfire but Iv been thinking about either:

1. Selling the Flexfire and getting a MB in like the 6'0 or 6'2 thin versions or the 6'1 HellRazor both in FST.
or
2. Picking up a second hand Alternator 6'0 in FST and keeping the Flexfire as this would fit nicely between my 5'8 spit and 6'3 Flexfire.

The reason im thinking about this is because I worry on the durability of the Rapidfire in heavy french beach breaks and travelling with it on the plane. I prefer the durability of the FST and the aesthetic looks of the boards I also rarely have much chance to use the flexfire.

I am about 5'11-6'0 and 68-70kgs, the 5'8 spitfire is perfect but my HPSB's I do like a tad longer say 6'0-6'3. The Hellfire is also an option due to the high number of amazing reviews but not sure I would like something quite that short for the 3-6ft wave range.

Im leaning towards the Alternator as It will be the cheaper option and has a bit of a more generous foil under the chest so should be grovel-able ( is that even a word i dont know). Also it will give me 3 boards in my quiver instead of just selling the Flexfire and having 2.
Saying that I can hear the HellRazor calling out to me hahaha.

What do you think guys..

I bought a 6, 2" Sub Scorcher but haven't had much luck matching the right fins to it. At 6ft 170lbs the AM fins have let me down. Ununsual outside rail catches have thrown me and a lack of hold on a cutback nearly blew out me knees. Neither of these issues have ever been a problem. Today I bought the MF-1 FCS fins in hopes of stronger hold though, once again, nobody at Hansens had any idea what performance differences would be a variable from one fin to another. I'm hoping I didn't go with the wrong board selection for my age/weight/size. Turning 50 sucks when you think you still surf like you did when your were 18.
If anybody can offer fin selection advice I would greatly appreciate it.

I have the AM2's in there right now and am torn between SA3's/ SA4's and the Stretches.

Go ahead and vote for what fins you think I should buy.

I surf mostly SoCal 2-5 footers, some mellow points like trestles and some beach breaks. I like to go top to bottom, no airs, lots of cutbacks and hitting the top mostly.

Hello everyone. I have a 5`6`` dominator wich i just absolutely love. I am 5`7 and 145 pounds. I have tried different fcs fins and i just like to surf it with the thruster set up better than quad.
I have allready tried the fcs sf4 - the board gets really fast but don`t like the quad feelling.
Fcs M3 - really loose board but tends to drift on the bottom turns.
Fcs M5 - more control, is the setup that i am surfing more often.

Now i am thinking about the Fcs MR-TFX as i mentioned above( the thruster setup). Anyone tryed this setup? Do you like it?

I surf mostly beachbreaks, 2 to 5 feet.

Best regards.

For those looking for fins for the lil' Spud, here's some observations.

I rode a 6'2", 5'10", 5'8" and finally settled on the right size for me, 5'6".

When I got the board, I didn't have fins (long story), so I used 4 thruster FCS G-2 fins from my older thrusters. While these fins made some serious drag, they worked ok in surf that had enough energy, but I wasn't flying around like I had with proper fins.

So next, the SF-4's go in that I borrowed from the buddy I sold my 5'10" to. WAY less drag, good hold. Never felt a fin give.

Finally the Indo's show up. I ordered these from the Aussie e-bay site. Customer service was amazing. After I ordered them, I sent an e-mail and immediately received a response back that they had some fins available and they were sending them out. Twice I checked on the status via e-mail and received a response. They even sent them express so I would get them by the weekend.

I had a set of controllers on hand, so I could do a comparison between the two.

Overall, they look very similar. The differences are subtle, but definitely there.

The Controllers are very sharp and are manufactured to a much higher tolerance. You can tell every angle of the fin is exact and there are no blems. The Indo's however, being hand made, have sand paper scratches on them, and areas the glass didn't cover. They are much softer in overall appearance and the rear fins have foil while the controllers have a definite edge to them.

Now, as I just recently met a guy at the beach who was stabbed by his fins in the inner thigh and had to go through surgery... maybe a duller fin is a better thing.

I never got to try the Controllers as they are going back to the shop, but.....

The INDO fin's are amazing. So much drive with each turn. As you can see in the photo's the INDO's sweep back way farther than the SF-4's. That sweep allows the board to build tremendous drive with each turn. I never felt much pivot (the reason I've always hated fish) unless I was completely flat and tried to turn, but in those cases I needed it. They hung on the rail with as much force as I could give em on cutbacks. I'm sold on these fins....

Whether it's Futures Controllers or the FCS copies from Indo, It's the best I've had yet, although I haven't tried the MRTX ;)
