  • Sweet Potato / Rapidfire Bamboo Deck Integrity

    #1
Well the day has come to sell my 5'8" Sweet Potato and I will miss her - I've lost 10kg so I will be getting a smaller one!
I cleaned her up last night and to my great satisfaction, found the deck to be just about perfect (strangely enough a couple of very, very slight wells where I sit on the board) so if you are new to Firewire and are worried about the strength on the bamboo deck have a look at the photos and judge for yourself.
I have flogged this board for around 18 months now and I am excited about the re-sale / trade in value that these boards offer.

Wow, indeed, I remember mine developed the fottwells after only a few sessions. But again I'm a vey heavy footed fatso!!!. Too much water pushing against the board as well!!

My 6-4 Dominator Rapid fire is doing good also. had a couple holes in the bottom repaired, the deck has some foot wells from pumping on small waves or landing a floater. Other than that still light as a feather. much lighter than the 6-4 Hell fire FST. No foot wells in the FST, not yet at least.
I feel it is flexier than the FST, perfect for small waves.
I hope I can get the Activator in Rapid fire, I enjoy that flex and the small foot wells. Just do not leave them in the sun, hot board bag on your car rack or in a hot car ever.

Goanna, how much are you asking for that sweet potato? Just curious.

Hey Fritz I’m not real sure yet as I am selling it through a shop as a deposit on the new one– so I will wait and see what their pricing recommendation would be.
Here in Australia, I’m hoping to get somewhere between $600 - $700 with deck and fins because my financial controller is also the leader of my opposition and she has only released a certain amount of funds out of our recreation budget. This board just about looks new so it will be a good buy for someone right on the cusp of taking the plunge.
(I’m quietly confident because she wants a new set of golf clubs!)

I have to agree that the RF Sweet P is lighter, more flex and the bamboo deck is actually far more superior (IMHO) than my FST Sweet P. I notice a few little deck wells on the FST and I've had it about 2 months. Yet the RF I've had a year and actually has none! Well not that I could see anyway haha. However the overall structure of the fast is stronger especially rails and belly. Wish there was bamboo bottom :)

I bet the crew at your local will be glad you're downsizing Goanna.
Might be some waves left over for them again when you don't catch anything that moves. :-)

                        Hey Goanna.
How did you find the 5'8" SP at your weight did it catch any ripple.
Would be interested to know how you find the 5'6" i assume.

                        Whats your fav firewire

36yrs 85Kgs 165cms. Found the 5'6" way too buoyant for me. At my weight I find the 5'4" a good compromise flotation/performance. In my case I really like the 5'2" for my local conditions

                              Interesting iggy.
I'm a touch younger, I weigh in about the same and a hair taller and am on a 5'6" SP.
But am probably a fair amount less experienced surfer.
However you got me thinking about giving a 5'4 a go.
