    Hi,

    I burn the whites of my eyes during long sessions and the glares killZ.

    I've been researching some options in eye protection while surfing;

    Sea Specs
    Silverfish
    Kurtis Goggles

    The Kurtis seem the best, top notch design with regard to detail and function.

    The Sea Specs seem the worst with regard to fog/beading.

    Oh and since I surf for myself, I'm not concerned with looks. I respect the line up and don't drop in so what else matters.

    Your experience and wisdom is appreciated.

    Gath helmets also make a tinted visor which I used in Indo but only when I had to but those Kurtis "goggles" look fine. Sensible idea really, I've already had one pterygium cut out (15 years ago) and it is quite an unpleasant experience. You get a local only and the surgeon keeps saying "don't blink" as he sticks sharp objects in your eye as if you're reaction is strange and unusual! Well once the anaesthetic does its job your eyelids are clamped open anyway but you get to watch everything first hand!

    Now I have another pterygium starting, time I looked into this too. I've seen a few cycling and skiing sunglasses that look like they'd work too with a string to secure them.

      The top right photo looks particularly appetizing.

      I was watching Who is JOB, very good BTW and Bruce Irons has a rather beefy tentacle on his eye as well. Kinda hard to look at actually.

        good idea for a thread...i'm in the same boat as slowman... there was ones developed years ago called barz optics for surfers...prob still around...this thread is the nudge i need to give up trying to look beautiful and get protected...i've gone out in my ocean swimming goggles before...everyone is looking at you...which i dont mind....except then i cant snake up their inside unnoticed...!!

          I wouldn't judge quality by the web site design as most look pretty shabby.

            My dad has Sea Specs. He bought them for kite surfing. I don't know how they'd be for surfing though...

                  They look prone to fogging as they sit on your face.

                      i have tried a few different ones and they all seem to be subject to a little bit of fogging.

                      I have used Sundogs in the past and they were ok but pretty pricey as well. The Fugglies aren't too bad and a good price, you can always use some of the anti-fogging spray.

                      The only thing i don't like about most of the goggles is if they have polarised lenses they make it really hard to judge the wave coming at you.

                        I have been thinking of giving sunnies for surfing a go, I've read they fog up more in cold water than warm, so might get a pair to test next indo trip.

                            Well, I will def find out and report back. Gonna wear these puppies in Ventura and Costa Rica.

                            I got my Kurtis's in the mail few days back, they sit an inch or so away from from my face due to the extensive padding. Hope that's enough to kill the fogging issue.

                            I hope the grey tint doesn't obscure on coming waves. Getting old can be great and crappy at the same time.

                              Yeah you might be right, but you woud think in 2012 with all the things they can do now days, sunnies that ont fog up wouldn't be that hard.
