  • Rock Up

After this weekends 6-8ft solid Jbay, I realised there is a gap in the current Firewire stable. I ride a 5'6 Spitfire most of the time and love that board(my first hybrid after 25 years of high performance boards), however getting back on a 6'4 rounded pin PU semi gun for this weekends chunky surf was such a letdown. After scouring the top shapers websites it seems the Rock Up (or similar) is 1 kind of board that is not currently offered by FW. Any idea if it maybe on the radar? I think it could be a real winner. ;-)

You could look at a Mini Driver. Will do the big hollow stuff. But a rock up would be epic

Have you checked out the Artillery?

I would buy a rock up or similar in FW FST construction. I have a mini driver which is a great board but as an intermediate, it be great to have a hybrid with more paddle speed when it's big.

I couldn't agree more I use a FW 508 minidriver as my go to short board but when it's cranking at Thurso East you need a bigger board I found my 510 mini too wide and tick in the rails but loved the shape. I ended buying a pu rock up from Matt to cover this gap. I think once you enjoy riding more hybrid shapes Hpsb guns are not so easy to jump on. No disrespect Josh but the artillery is a very high performance board for pipeline type waves not the sort of board average joe surfer jumps on after spending most of his time aboard his trusty spit, Dom , or minidriver. FST is a great technology that Fw should embrace more shapers into like what surf tech did but FST is far superior. The rock up and beach buggy or driver IMHO would be a great addition to Fw,s collection.

I understand it is a high performance board, but if MartyH says he's charging solid 8ft J-Bay, then a 603 Artillery could be a great board to keep up with the speed of that wave. If that is an overestimation of the size of waves he's riding, then I agree with your advice on something like a MD.

Hey Josh, a brace of threads now calling for the Lost Rock-up in FST from firewire devotees...
            1) This one.
            2) http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/f/...n-their-quiver
            3) http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/f/...ed-more-mayhem

            6) http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/f/...45-lost-rockup

Plus if you go through the forum you'll find a ton of people a little lost (excuse the pun) as to what to do for bigger wave board from their hybrid (and don't want to ride a HPSB). How bout you do a business case for this one and take it to the boss?...might get yourself a raise or a full time job :)

Is firewire listening to its customers any more?? Not sure I've ever seen forum posters recommend a model addition so clearly before...

Totally agree Magnet, most of my Fw boards are lost shapes. V2 subscorcher minidriver. I just bought a rock up From Matt as no FST version. I also say bring back the lost Fluo logos. The one on my minidriver is sick.

Spot on all. I have ridden HP boards all my life and since riding the Spitfire, I absolutely love the performance hybrid feel and am not at all interested in going back to a HP board (big or small). The Artillery has waaaay to pulled in a tail for the waves I ride (even 8ft JBay) as I don't just want to hold my line but also want to do fast tight turns in the pocket.

FW definitely caters for everything in the small to medium wave dept and then the artillery is a Hawaiian style board (in my opinion - I wouldn't even take 1 to Indo as in the Ments this year I used my 5'6 Spitfire and 5'11 Hellrazor and never felt under gunned), FW could definitely could do with a performance hybrid step up like the rock up. I would be first in line to purchase

                over and out ;-)

1 last thing, the 8ft Jbay call is a slight underestimation of the surf the other day. Grant "Twiggy" Baker was calling it 10ft and we know what kinda waves he rides

I have a pu rock up. Love it in big east coast waves. Really suits my age and ability. Still like my hellfire in good waves but the rock up makes for an easier transition from my wider small to medium wave boards. Just personal preference. I would def be into a fire wire version. Still a fan of the tech but I've been really liking the lost domesticated series as far as meshing with my age, ability and style. The rock up is a bigger wave extension of those boards. Still enjoy and ride my firewires. Just think im going in a different direction shape wise.
