I am 6'3" and 210 lbs and the 6.0 SP is much too big for me. All that foam in a chubby short board is super slow for paddling.

Nearly,
For larger, steeper days I strongly recommend a Hellfire or Quad5. A PN and one of these two boards will set you up for anything that is surfable. The Hellfire handles late drops MUCH...
My son stumbled upon an old Quadraflex for next to nothing. I let him use my beloved Hellfire and we swapped boards for a few waves. All I can say is that the Quadraflex is by far and away my...
I am 210 lbs and 6'3" and LOVE the 6'2" Potatonator for smaller waves. I agree with the 6' recommendation. This will be the board you paddle out on most days.
Board bog is fantastic! I always keep some handy. Just pull off a little piece and apply it like bubble gum over the ding. It gets semi hard and lasts until you scrape it off with a comb. It looks...
Does anyone know when the BP will show up on the board comparison section? I am considering switching from a SP to a smaller BP and wanted to compare the dimensions. My SP is simply too large for...
Mr Pear,
That seems like a really big jump in size for winter. I get the fitness issue, but as you clarify, with a larger board comes harder duck diving, and when the faces get ten to twelve foot,...
I agree with the board choice too, GO. I am a few pounds lighter than you and if I was to choose one board for your wave range it would be the Dom or better yet, Spitfire. I ride a 6' 6" DM, a 6'2"...
I have a set of Controllers but only use them on my SP. I will try them in my PN now. Thanks Goanna.
I absolutely love this board. It has relegated both my Dom and my SP to the rafters. I now...
I agree. Good suggestions. We will need to remember not only that fins are subjective, but that they are specifically made for different sized surfers. The appropriate fins for the rider of the...
The volume calculator seems to be more accurate now for us older guys. My guess is they tweaked it recently.
After surfing both, i strongly recommend the PN. My PN paddles much better than the SP in any size wave due to the narrowed nose.
The 'Nator is a lot of fun and super easy to paddle and duck dive. If she prefers to surf smaller waves, you can't go wrong.
I find there is a size wave around 1foot or so where even the SP won't do the trick. I surf SoCal, and the SP or 'Nator are enough for most small days, but sometimes it just gets too small, and I...
I have a Dom and a PN of roughly the same volume (the PN is 4" shorter and 1 liter smaller). The 'Nator paddles, catches waves and duck dives better. It is definitely the board for 2 to 3 foot. The...
I am 210 lbs, 6 foot 3 and much older than you and find the 6.2 is absolutely perfect. I have never had a better board for paddling, wave catching and duck diving. The board feels like an extension...
I have a Sweet Potato and a Potatonator and I strongly suggest sticking with the Potatonator. This board is amazing. It paddles and catches wave better than my larger Dom, and MUCH better than the...
I ride a 6'6 Dom, and just got a 6'2 Potatonator. The PN paddles better, catches waves easier and duck dives easier than the DM. I'd say in the larger sizes to go 4" shorter. Both boards are amazing.
I love the Solus on my 6'6". I also like using the Solus in the front and a Pancho in the rear.
Thanks Bumper,
What size SP do you have? Do you find the PN avoids that paddling issue with SP where a smaller wave's energy passes you by?
Thanks Jus,
How do you like the PN compared to a Dom or similar? And when do you prefer the PN over the SP?
I have a Dom and. SP and was wondering if I would enjoy adding something in between...
Barney,
I suggest that the ideal three board quiver is the Sweet Potato you ordered, a 6'4" Dom and a 6'6" hellfire. I have the same three boards and feel that it covers everything that SoCal surf...
What a difference!
The old calculator without age made it seem like I needed smaller boards. Now that it knows I am in my 50's, it is recommending boards that are right for me.
I am 210 pounds...
Cuttlefish,
Thanks for the great summary. I am the same age and weight as you and find the 6'6 Dom is perfect for 2' to 4' conditions. I find the 6'4 Dom hard to paddle. How does the 6'2...
Thanks all. I am also ordering some Board Bog and will let you all know how that works out.
