the flyer 2 is just a longer skinnier flyer made for slightly bigger waves. so i ride the flyer 2 and alt in the same approximate dims. 6'8 20 1/4, 2 3/4 alt, 6'8 20 3/4 2 3/4 flyer. flyer feels more...

Anyone surf both?
Do you think these boards are too similar? If you're surfing the flyer 2 as your go-to board do you think there's a time when you would want to break out the alternator because...
i'm 6'4" 205 lbs and ride the 6'8" 20 1/4" and 2 3/4" alt and like it quite a bit but would love to get to a board closer to my height so i can get my feet in the right place. my front foot is where...
thanks pro. is the hell raiser as user friendly?
i don't know what it is about the alt that i like. it just always feels right.
I love the 6'8" alternator. what is going to replace it as a user-friendly high performance board?
i would love to see the alternator a little more contemporary looking. my 6'8" looks very long...
thanks everyone. PRJ sounds like your experience with the sweet potato is similar and that how i'm gonna treat mine for now. i'll bust it out when i know i can't have fun on the alt and see where...
might try the jodry or pancho as a thruster? they're the only two with more drive. if they're too bulky for my spit i can try them on the hellfire.
...
Here's the fins i'm using. this is a quad set but they make it as a 5 fin and i've actually been surfing it as a thruster. i'm not sure i see any futures any better for me but i don't know fins well....
thanks again. i'm going to get some new fins for sure and give it a week or two when we get the weak surf in the spring. thanks
i am leaning exactly that way. i'm on here as a last resort. i'm going to split the difference and only try this board on the smaller waves where i wasn't going to rip it up anyway and see if i can...
thanks Baker. that's multiple comments on the fins and earlier pop-up. i'm going to try them both and stick to smaller softer waves until i get it figured out. thanks a bunch!!!!
buzzy. thanks a bunch. i really appreciate your time on this. it's awesome because i check this forum a lot and you are most similar to me in age and weight (although i'm 188cm and i'd give myself an...
thanks slowman! yes it is a lack of drive and i will see about the fins. i use the same fins on my hellfire and experience the same issue but to less of a degree. you're totally right! i want it to...
Thanks PRJ.
i wish i had footage. i'm going to get into that soon. a friend did mention that i should spread my feet out further on that board so i'll try that. thanks. my back foot is def all...
I've been surfing for three years 5 days a week. I'm 45 yo, 6'3", 205 lbs. (95 kl). I love my 6'8" alternator and will continue to surf it in head high and above but i thought i'd try other boards...
thanks chris!
right on. i'm waiting to see what chris has to say. we get some monster souths at my break so i don't have too much time :)
thanks magnet and pjrweb. my concern is that the flexfire would be less forgiving. i'm used to the alternator but definitely not as good as i'd like to be on it. i'd hate to surf something more...
thanks magnet. i'll check out the 7'2" flexfire for sure. do you think it gets you in earlier than your 6'8" even though it's the same float and surface area? i'm also considering the alternator...
thanks magnet. you think it'll get in earlier. even at the same float? i know the flexfire is a more advanced board than the alternator. is it going to be less forgiving?
awesome!!!!! avail. this spring?
hey nev. (pjr and chris and all else also welcome :) ) i'm a big fan and have bought 7 new firewires in the last 2 years. (scaling down as my skills improved)
i need a recommendation for a step...
yeah. i draw the line at 10' so i'm not looking for anything crazy. does anyone know if the squash and round tail alternators are identical except for the very edge of the tail?
thanks guys. so do you think the 6'10 round tail or my 7'2" squash would be a decent 7'-10' board? is it a good shape or should i look at something else? are the round tails and squash identical...
spit on the way. thanks again! now for my step up decision (see alternator thread) :)
