Just wanted to say thank you...

I recently made a series of posts inquiring about what size Dom to get into and what I could expect from it in bigger surf. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a 602 RF Dom and all I can say is thank you.
Thank you for the great advice on sizing! Thank you for shipping the board so quickly! Thank you for making such an amazing board! This might be the single best purchase I have made in my life to date!
I took it out for the first time this morning after recieving it on friday as we were lucky to get a 3-5'+ swell. Good shape, pretty clean, med swell here on Long Island. By far the best waves we've had all summer and I dont think I could have ordered a better day to take my new Dom out and it surpassed my expectations. BY FAR!!! Fast and stable but not too opinionated, great paddle power, easy to get on a rail, and amazing wave catching ability. I surfed better today in head high waves (on a board that I had never surfed before) than I ever have in my life! My confidence was soaring and so was my wave count! While I'm not selling my longboard anytime soon, I do see it getting very jealous over the next few months.
Thank you Nev and Dan and the rest of the Firewire team on making such amazing product. If this is the future of surfing I cannot wait for tomorrow! You guys are awesome.
I cannot say it enough- THANK YOU!!!

btw- you can expect a some friends of mine to be hanging around your forum over the next few weeks. Expect to be shipping more boards to NY gentlemen. Job well done!
  • what can be expected from a Dom in head high to overhead surf...

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a RF 6'2 Dom (thank you all for your help/suggestions in my previous post) but I have one last querry- How will the board hold up in bigger surf. I hear alot that it will do well up to about the 6' range but no one has said what'll happen in bigger surf. I know it's got a really fat ass. Is that going to cause it to slip all over the place? I'd most likely be setting mine up as a thruster and it's not as though I'll be consistently finding overhead bombs but on the occasional hurricane swell that can hit the eastcoast I'd like to be able to go out and try to kill myself with confidence! any thoughts?
    thanks

    what size Dom?

Just like everyone else in this forum I need a bit of guidance on sizing. Im a 34 yr old, 175 lb novice (3-4 yrs surfing, 25-35 days a year) living in New York. The overwhelming majority of my days are spent surfing mushy 2-4' beachbreak though I do travel to PR and have a trip planned to Nicaragua for next spring/summer. I'm presently surfing a 7'6" Walden Mini-Magic which has been great but I really want to get something that will be more exciting & interesting to ride. Easier & more aggressive turns without sacrificing too much paddle power/ wave catching ability- is that too much to ask for?
Anyway, I've been eyeing the Dom online for a while and finally got my hands on one a week or two ago and now can't get it out of my head. I know its what I want as I heard angels singing when I held it under my arm at the shop (you all know that magic feeling I'm talking about). I'm just stuck on sizing. I know its going to be a bigger one, something around 6'2 - 6'6 I just can't decide which one.
Any suggestions guys? Nev or Dan if you're out there I'd love to have you weigh on this one if you could.

    Thanks in advance ,
    bill

    What size Dominator...

Not quite sure what size Dominator to get as a travel board.
    About myself-
    34 yrs old
    5'7
    175 lbs
    novice/intermediate surfer

I surf mostly mushy waist to stomach beachbreaks here in NY on a 7'6 Walden Mini-Magic which works great. Lots of paddle power, catches waves easily and surprisingly agile for what it is. While I am thoroughly pleased with my current board in those conditions it is far less fun as the swell rises and its starts creeping over shoulder high and have a bit more power to them as the board feels too floaty and clumsy.
What I'm looking for is a board that will feel more comfortable in HH+ surf without losing too much of it's paddling power/ wave catching ability on waist high days. I'm not looking for a shortboard, I want something with wide hips!

I'm just not sure what size to get. My intitial thought was around 6'6" but the more I look around online the more I see everybody going really short with it. I don't care about keeping up with what everyone is doing but I dont want to get this wrong either. I know a 5'8" is too small. How would a 6' or 6'2 fair as a travel/ all-arounder?

    thanks for your input-
