    Step up for Indo

Just booked a one-way ticket out to Indo for mid-July with the intention of staying for 2-3months (SO stoked!!), but was looking some advice on a step up.

I'm 6ft, 160lbs, intermediate surfer, and surf regularly in a 5/4 boots gloves on Vancouver Island on a 5,6' Potatonator. I absolutely LOVE the potatonator, but know I'm going to need to buy something pointier in Indo. I'm planning on picking up a shortboard (leaning towards a 5'11 hellrazor or 6'0 alternator), but have been advised that it's worth having a step up for the big days.

know very little about step-ups (surfing BC I've never needed one!) but was looking at the 6'3 fexfire and didn't know how that would fare? Thanks!

Hellrazor for Indo, plus what step-up?

Just booked a on-way ticket out to Indo for mid-July with the intention of staying for 2-3months (SO stoked!!), but was looking some advice on boards.

I'm 6ft, 160lbs, intermediate surfer, and surf regularly in a 5/4 boots gloves on Vancouver Island on a 5,6' Potatonator I bought on advice from this forum. I absolutely LOVE the potatonator, but know I'm going to need to buy something pointier in Indo.

I've been advised that for the July-Sep season two boards are worth having; a shortboard and a step up, and wanted to know how a 5,11 hellrazor would suit. I'd also been looking at the 6' alternator but I like idea of the extra width of a hellrazor and it being a hybrid....

I've also never even considered a step up before and know virtually nothing about how to pick one, but had been looking at maybe a 6'3 flexfire? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

    5'6 Potatonator Futures fins help

After much waiting my 5'6 FST potatonator futures finally arrived! Going to surf this weekend so extremely stoked, but need some help picking fins. I'm intermediate, 6'1 about 160lbs and surfing Vancouver Island in a full winter suits etc.

After digging through the forums I've narrowed it down to the Futures Elevon (size small) and the Stretch quad and am torn if it's worth spending the extra $70-80 extra for the Elevon, however given the wave i surf is kinda flat I feel it might be worth it.

Here is the wave I surf most of the time: (I've posted this before but skip to about 1:20 for the surfing)

Hellrazor as a step up to a potatonator?

So after much debate I ordered a 5,6 potatonator a few weeks ago (I'm 6ft, 160lbs, intermediate surfer, and surf in a 5/4 boots gloves on Vancouver Island) which I'm beyond excited for it to arrive hopefully next week, but am looking to get something to complement it for when the waves pick up as my ancient 6,0 wade tokoro has finally packed it in last weekend.. I like the board but with it being constantly waterlogged it only seemed to excel when it was really big and clean and I bought it used long before I knew how to surf properly ..so really looking for a board thats going to help progress my surfing without being a really high performance board where i'm just going to struggle using it, especially when the waves aren't great. I'm pretty much trying to build a two board quiver to cover me for nearly anything.
Leaning towards the 5'11 hellrazor as it has a bit of length but is quite a bit wider, though i see a few people my weight also riding the 6,1 so I have no idea what would make the most sense..

Here's a video of the break I ride 90% of the time, so aiming to use the board when it's bigger/punchier than this:

    Sizing help

Having very nearly bought a spitfire after asking probably far to many questions in that forum, I've realized that with my ancient 6,1 wade tokoro (which is awesome when it nears head high) it makes far more sense for me to have a board for smaller and weaker conditions.. I was looking at either the baked potato or the potatonator, but figure the potatonator is far more versatile and comes in the stronger FST to boot.

I'm an intermediate surfer (comfortable up to just overhead, can trim down the line, learning to pump properly to generate speed, and can make some mellow turns on the face) living in Vancouver (so I can't surf all that regularly). I've been surfing for 6-7 years but never consistently so my progression has been slow-ish.

I've ridden a couple of the shorter, fatter hybrids and been really stoked on them (I had an old 5,4 rocket a buddy gave me which i loved, but it's unrideable now) so am pretty much set on either a 5,6 or 5,8 potatonator, leaving the wade tokoro for a the rarer days when it's overhead. I'm about 6foot, 22yo, 156lbs and being in the NW i'm always in a full 5/4 wintersuit, boots, gloves, hood etc

The surf here is usually anywhere from knee to head high, so that's kinda the range i'm aiming for, and am leaning towards the 5,6 with Futures Elevons given quite a few guys here around the 175lbs mark are on it, but better surfers than me and I'm worried a 5,8 will feel too chunky. Any advice would be awesome!

The break I surf most often looked like this last time (smaller day for sure):

  • Volume differences on Dominator between website and CBD

I was looking at the Dominator on the CBD and noticed that for the 5,8 model it says the stock volume is 30.4L, where as on the Dominator page on the normal website it says the volume is actually 31L ..it does this for a few of the sizes despite the specs being the same, which is the correct volume?

stuck on sizing and spitfire/dominator choice

I'm looking at getting at getting a firewire, and since my local shop that stocks them isn't that knowledgable, I'd be stoked for some feedback here.

I'm an intermediate surfer (comfortable up to just overhead, can trim down the line, slowly learning to pump properly to generate speed, and can make some mellow turns on the face) living in Vancouver (so I can't surf all that regularly). I've been surfing for 6-7 years but never consistently so my progression has been fairly slow. I've owned a number of used boards, and right now have a big guys short board (6,6 x 20.25 x 2.5) for when it's small/average and an old 6,1 thin, narrow wade tokoro shortboard for the few days when it's pumping which my brother gave me. There is also a good chance I may sell those two boards to help pay for this.

I've ridden a couple of the shorter, fatter hybrids and been really stoked on them so am pretty much set on either a dominator or a spitfire as a "do it all" board, leaving the wade tokoro for a the rare days when it's wayy overhead. (I'm also for sure not a good enough surfer yet to really make the most of it). I'm about 6foot, 22yo, 159lbs and being in the NW i'm always in a full wintersuit, boots, gloves, hood etc

The surf here is usually anywhere from knee to head high, so that's kinda the range i'm aiming for, and leaning towards the spitfire as i've read the narrower tail will hold better when it starts to get to shoulder high, plus I feel like it might be a better board for me to grow into? But honestly I'm not sure. I'm just not sure what size to go for and i'm not too knowledgable on boards. The buyers guide recommends a 5,10, the volume calculator recommends closer to a 5,8, and it seems on the forum many people heavier than me are on a 5,8. I looked on the CBD and saw that there is a 5,9 option so was thinking maybe that, but would be stoked if you'd be able to give me some advice on which board you think would be best, and the sizing?

Here are a couple photos of the breaks I surf, to give you an idea what it's often like, though we for sure get bigger/smaller days!
