aloha hawaii, no extra shots but yeah in my head i wanted different shots from different angles but only had the go pro, plus the girlfriend (the poor thing) she sat at that park for hours letting me surf, but its on the cards again to go back, i just enjoyed riding and feeling the wave,
hey guys...hope all you potato lovers are well. So i am 78kgs and i got the 5'10 sweet potato, reason being that i like surfing as much as possible BUT i mainly surf in the middle east...yes qatar and dubai! NOT famous places but we get a lot of little waves. Any STOKE time is fun with friends.
i find the 5'10 floaty sure, but i love catching loads of waves..if i lived where better waves were..then i would go smaller for sure. I do also have a 7'4 mini mal and a 6'3 aloha bean future flex which is my real wave board for traveling.
have a look at my little video made in the wave pool in UAE..im riding my potato for the first time ever, i tried 2 sets of fins- standard quad ones i got with the board and some controller quads.
keep surfing, have fun
thanks mate, am loving the board, it does catch waves easily, now just learning to ride it and progress.
Fcs sf4hi all, so i brought a sweet potato and i have a set of 4 fins for it- they are the 2 sizes- small at the back and have SF4 written on them, so are these the stretch fins which people go on about?
when i do a good search i do get the same pics but also i see yellow stretches and ones with the word stretch on them? my fins are plane but with SF4
hey all, im back :-)
so some of you will remember i was looking for a SP for my birthday (30th) i finally got one- see the link post at the bottom for the photo,
Any way..a little swell came to Dubai this week and it was time to try! im 6ft-80kg now due to a big fitness drive and feeling fit! the waves were soft, max waist high but they were pushing through so i had a go!
i got the 5'10 due to living in the middle east, soft easy waves. when i paddled out i found it really easy, it was fast and i was competing against every type of board above 7ft, even SUP's! i got loads of waves,
im not a great surfer but i can do the basics :-) after reading all the SP posts here i had in mind i needed to surf it from the back foot, this took a little getting used to but once i got it right i loved the way i could pump fast down the line- way faster than my BIC 6'7, usually my ride would have finished early due to speed or sinking on these small waves but i was able to run all the way till knee deep water :-)
im sure 5'10 will be too buoyant for most, but we have small waves without the power. i got loads of waves- all the set waves and people were all wanting to know about the board due to the size and my wave count :-D
no special fins- only the standard ones you get with it, a great board, loved it
hello iggy, its in FCS, currently the board is in Dubai at the GF's place, looking for a travel bag, but the board is quite wide so proving a little difficult, i want a travel bag for 2 boards, i think i need a fish bag?
are you ready??? :-) happy birthday to me!!hey all, so finally, a big thanks to all who replied to me, havnt surfed it yet but trust me im waiting! winter season isnt here yet but im super excited. Have read all the fin comments and will try get a different set to help me have the most fun. Currently its just the set which come standard. so here it is..2 photos of my new potato :-)
thanks to "surf dubai" for helping me out- they had one in store.
chris i want one, ;-) !! how do i know what shops will order them?? im so out of sync with england!! :-( i live in QATAR but will buy and get it delivered to the family address!
oh will it be only the rapidfire type?
ok so now i need help- i want to buy the 5'10 FST white potato, none in dubai..can i order one from firewire which they can make or already have made in thailand? then send it to the dealer in Dubai?
i spoke to the middle east dealer and they have just had their delivery for the year and didnt include a 5'10 :-( if i get one from england now i wont get it till december when the parents come over :-( this means i will miss out on all the swell coming before then!!
hows the packaging? anyone had a board delivered in the post before?
its surprising FW have a longboard 9ft at 59ltrs and a 5'10 SP at 46 :-) i think i ill put the effort into a SP! once in a life time :-) thanks for all the help, to be honest i dont have much choice here for boards so will try look into buying one in england
ok guys, so i went to dubai- they had a few boards but all too small for what i want! i been looking at the baked P at 5'11 or the sweet P at 5'10?? or even 6ft?
is sweet p at 46.6ltr volume a whole load of foam :-) should i even look at a 6? remember my little video and photos...waves in the gulf middle east?
oh last thing..eveyone seems to like the future fitting fins? can you get FST with futures??
hey bumper- thanks for the advice so far, i have looked at the addvance, but it starts in a 6'6... i was looking to try something smaller than my bic but with more volume.. so an idea- 6' 1" 22 3/4" 3" diamond 50.9 baked P?? surely 50ltr is loads? and a smaller board to make turns on? in the winter here in QATAR we get good storms where i can ride my bic, i just want a new board with more float to ride on the smaller days and hopefully improve.
i went to dubai this weekend to look at the dealer of firewire, i got to touch hold and check out both a sweet and baked but not the size i was looking for, it was only the bambo deck one...as i want the FST.
yeah i looked at a dom a few months ago, but at 6'2-4 and 40ltr a potato can beat this and be a little smaller. i have ridden 6ft-6'4 shortboards but just in bigger waves than what i get in qatar.
thnaks for your input,
Yeah I like the look and idea of having a baked potato, I haven't found many online for sale in surf shops, can you order direct from FireWire? Is the white fst out yet? Seems like reviews suggest its stronger? And future fins better choice?
ok see this link..a little video i made from the weekend surfing... you can see the size of waves
i would like the more performance potato, but its just the gamble...i live in a desert country. the idea is i take it in a double board bad with my bic to have best of both worlds!!
also i use the mini mal when glides more than does turns which i want to do more of!!
hey chris...i am looking for a small wave board- i use my bic 6'6 to travel around the world- its solid and i have grown used to it over the years! i just want a board which can help me progress in small waves with float and be stoked :-) thanks for all the advice-- just looking now on firewire site at the baked potato for the 5'11? loads of volume maybe so i can ride small waves...dont forget i live the the middle east..not famous for surf!!!
ok well i will go look at it in a shop and get more of a feel. thanks to all for helping.
6ft tall and 84 kilos
sorry guys,...ok here are the details below- im just an average or even less surfer, but have been to bali, sri lanka, oz and other places and love it, with my bic im able to do turns andenjoy steeper waves, but on small waves it doenst float enough,
the roxy board was just a buy as i was passing a shop- no sizes..might even be a display piece but i ride it and its always fun.....but i just wish to turn quicker and improve! the mini mal feels like its more of a "set the rail" and trim the wave and ride like a mal??
42 people look at my post and no one can help me??
really small waves....5'8hey all, so i live in the middle east...attached are 2 pics i took today with a little wind swell we had, currently i have a roxy girls board i found in a quik store. its a mini mal at 7'3/4 i think...no sizes on the board. it gets me surfing waves from about 1ft?
so i would love a 5'8 potato but look at the size of my waves!! i do travel to bigger and better waves and have a 6'7 bic,
firewire go on about volume indicator but i cant find any other websites to compare? i dont want to buy a potato if its same or less than my mini mal? anyone help?
Quad fish vs lost round nosed fishHi
Just wondering if any similarity between the quad fish and lost rnf ? Are they totally different beasts or would they share some characteristics?
Have a quiver gap am wanting to fill and like idea of quadfish... Wanting to make sure it will be right for some grovel and also up to a few feet...
I heard about the SP Rehab board, but had no experience yet. I had seen many of the people regained their health to normal position after taking the Rehabilitation treatment. It includes the treatments designed to facilitate the process of recovery from injury, illness or disease to as normal a condition as possible, The person may also gain self sufficiency during the process. Could you please produce some attachment links regarding the SP rehab center?
Thanks fellas, I'm intermediate fairly competent surfer of 8 yrs, 5ft 8 and 11stone..........
Hellfire ! Yes !Posted on here a few times now. Have a fuego and a futura. The futura is amazing. Took it in some good clean 4ft solid surf and it ripped. Had chance to pick up cheap hellfire so jumped at it. Took it out last week. Amazing! Was only pretty weak so i know it won't come alive till it gets bigger and more powerful, however I still found it to float and surf really well. Little more twitchy but I like that! Can't wait to get it in again.... Then took out my fuego.... Felt to big and buoyant!!! Think I bought too big, and all I want to grab us the hellfire!! However to change things up and. Compliment the quiver thinking selling fuego and buying a spitfire for the in between and general surf for 80percent time... What peoples thoughts? 5ft 8 spit my call... Just need to find one that I can afford!!
I am after a 5ft 8 quad fish but finding it hard to find one in any shops or second hand..... Want to replace an old fish. Don't want to go potato etc, but nobody seems to stock the fish?
What other FireWire would u liken it to? If any? Really liked it and thinking it could be the travel board... Should handle most situations I reckon?
james started a topic Futura!!!!!!! Thank u queen for the bank holiday day off!
Futura!!!!!!! Thank u queen for the bank holiday day off!East coast uk had good swell today. Took out my 6ft futura for first time. Was great. So different to el fuego, couldn't quite believe it. Great board. Used k2.1s and seemed to work pretty well. Waves all bank hol, so thank u the queen for granting a day off today. Think futura is to be the go to board now.......Except picking up a hellfire this weekend. Damn
Great, thanks for the input. i'll gove the 5'4" a go i reckon.
5'4" or 5'6"Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting myself a sweet potato. I am 33, 80kg and 187cm and my fitness levels are good. I currently have a 6'0" Hellfire which goes real nice on grunty 4 foot + waves. But i find that it a feels a little too big on smaller waves.
I've tried a 5'8" dom which was too small and a 5'10 dom which felt too big. I'm leaning towards a 5'4" potato. Does this sound about right?
just a quick check on something if you can help....
my futura is an early model #25378
dims are 6ft, 19.75, 2.38
will that have same volume as new futura's on the website? i.e 29.4?
feels quite big when compared to my fuego, but it should have less vol?
yeah....so futura, elf fuego and fish tail.....good range to cover...i'm not at stage to need step up!!!
futura be good for trips to heavier european points/beaches...
elfuego for east coast uk and fish for small mush anywhere?
yeah i thought about potato, i just really like fishes. I had a xanadu rocket fish and loved it and was hoping firewire fishtail would replace it nicely.
i know the potato would allow more progressive moves, but i like the idea of the fish more.....? guess could also think potatonator?
Yeah i know the dom....but I have an el feugo....thought dom would not be best to buy as el fuego covers similar waves? would a dom simply then make the fuego redundant?
i would also class myself as intermediate, so dont know if i would really know or feel massive diff between futura and hellfire?
shall i just buy the fish tail for the small days....have always loved twin fins...
Torn. got the opp to buy a 5ft 10 for good price, but thinking it might be just a greedy purchase.
I ride the el fuego all the time, and rarely use the futura!
just got tempted by the idea of the hellfire as a travel board to surf in better waves. i.e morocco/portugal.
however i also figure the futura would be okay for that to?
would a hellfire be a an unwise purchase if already own a futura?Hi all
i have a 6ft futura and was considering a 5ft 10 hellfire......satisfy board buying addiction.
Was just thinking that it might be a bit of a pointless purchase as have a futura in 6ft. It would be a similar volume to the hellfire and i figured would be similar board?
any thoughts be appreciated.
If not hellfire purchase i am going to stump up for a fish tail for the other end of quiver!
Goanna, thanks for reply, fuego I surf is 5ft 11. Could surf 5ft 9 but felt wanted more vol.
Also v tempted by the fishtail/quadfish as a final board for quiver. Fancy a cruisy fish for the smaller days....
6ft futura....Got hold of a 6ft futura... Probs 4 years old?
Not got it wet yet....
Interesting chatter on forum about it. Seems it wi be good for variety Of waves? What have people took it u to? And how well can it grovel? Will it replace the trusty fuego?
Be stoked to gear
Thanks nev. may try a 5tf 11 and put the issue to bed. Part of me thinks with a full winter suit and cold water that 5ft 11 may just be the go. Will get off here Ns get in the water ! Flat on our east coast tho. As for whinging poms!!! Ha! CBD for uk! Thanks again. This forum is great
yeh but wont the quad fish also be good for waves when they get a little better to....
yes iggy! seen that! been up there a few times now! no way am i a charger and last time i took a beating, but keen to try and score and improve this trip!
how do think a feugo would go up there! taking my futura and a black and white 6ft 3 custom.
to keep up with my addiction i have just manaage to find a shop with stock of fish tail and quad fish. want to replace my surf tech wave rocket....nev reckons the quadfish all the way.....
any thoughts on what board in the range is closest to the fuego?
ythanks for reply.....still been torn about my 5ft9 fuego and then nev goes and says should get the 5ft 11!!! i reckon i need to get it in some good waves to really feel it and be sure....
i just had a look around the uk and europe for any stockist of firewire and i could find NO elfuego's in 5ft 11 anyway!!
do you know of good stockists? was thinking if did end up punting for a 5ft 11 may have to even mail it from u.s?
heading up to scotland in a month....you think 5ft 9 will go well in some bigger surf? gunna take futua also just to be sure...
another thought....what other board in the range, including newer models would be like the el fuego? if any?!
Nev u sowing the seeds of doubt!!!
Hey man thanks for reply. U making me think I shoulda gone 5 11!! Just weighed me self tho! 154llbs!!! If I did wanna get 5ft 11 could u let me know of euro stockists . Uk are All out of that board, maybe have to mail it from somewhere in France or Portugal? Thanks for all the advice! Futura was bought secOnd hand of ebay, think it good few years old
Thanks man. 5 ft 8 sounds the go. My fuego has been great, I was stressing a bit that I should of gone 5ft 11, as I noted that's what u ride, but most folks on forum suggested 5ft 9 was fine. It requires a little extra paddle power but is rad. I need to get it in some good waves to really feel it. Picked up a futura recently to, but not got it in water. Got avscottish Thurso trip soon so hoping both boards will handle some solid swells. What max size u think fuego will handle? Loving new range. Oh and can customs be ordered for uk yet? To go secret spot in scarborough
Nev, help with the fishes!Nev, surf the fuego. Spot on! Just sold a 5ft 8 surf tech wave rocket fish. Loved that board! Would love to replace with FireWire fish . Just wondering if u could give me some nev wisdom on the fishes in the range. Also wondered about volume if going for a fish, I surf 5.9 fuego and am 161pounds. Would I be looking at similar volumes in a FireWire fish or would I need more? I like the look of the fish tail . I have seen a 5ft 10 but at 35 litres is that too much? Would I be looking at 5ft 8 or 5ft 6? Loved my surf tech and want a similar FireWire! Thanks in advance!! Any of your insight into the fish models be great to hear
firewire fish tail......size and volumeHi
I ride the 5.9 el fuego
if if was to replace an old fish (surf tech wave rocket) what size fish tail would you recommend?
I would have thought maybe the 5ft 8? the buyers guide suggests the 5ft 10.
I note the volume on the 5 ft 10 is 35litres. that seems a bit high - or is it better to have lots of vol for that board?
grateful for any thoughts...
I recently sold a surf tech wave rocket. I loved that board. I really enjoy the fishy feel. Was tempted by potato or new models, but was also thinking of checking out quad fish or twin fish for the wave rocket feeling. What would peoples thoughts be? Good for small and mushy waves but also fun in other conditions? Good alternative to all the other hybrids?
core training....well if you went well on the 5.7 then the 5.9 is def ok for me. had a few more surfs on it now...getting into it! pretty happy
new models looking good
the next question...which of the new models to get! or pick up a performance hybrid as next board?
east coast uk dawny on tommorow!
Thanks for all the replies
have settled nicely on the 5.9 now. had a few surfs and its been great. stoked on it. was the right choice for sure
yeah, matt. december on the east has been all time. such a good month
lets of 2012 brings some more good swells to yorkshire!
east coast uk......somewhere
prjwebb.....nah, not cornwall...we talking other side of country!
Nev...tell me about the FUTURA......an often missed board when choosing?Nev
Any chance of some Nev wise words on the FUTURA? have checked the video and the old forum
how do you rate the board and how do you describe it?
is is similar to the fuego? more like another? interested to where you place it in the firewire range?
what size woudl you ride if you surfed it, and what conditions would you take it out in?
of course anyone else's views also welcome!
5ft 9 fuego - hope not sold myself shortpurchased a 5ft 9 fuego
had a couple of surfs. the boards flies. real happy with it, but have felt I really have to paddle hard to get into waves. Once on the face the board feels amazing, responsive and the right size
just wanted to see what people thought about size choice, just wanting to re-assure myself I have got the right board - i.e would the 5ft 11 got into waves better?
im 5ft 8 and 161llbs and been surfing 7 years. winter wetsuit probs adds weight to
what are peoples thoughts - i ask because i note nev surfs the 5ft11 and he is lighter than me
