    93kg 193cm looking for a SweetP

    Any size advice? was thinking a 5'6 or 5'4??? I currently own a 6'4 Dom which is slightly overfoamed...fells a bit...coarky!

    is it the norm to add volume on the sweetP to paddle easier, or take away as it is has a massive planing area?

    Where to go from here?

    I made a new thread in the sweetP forums but nobody answered so i though id bring it here.

    as many of you might know, i own a 6.4 dom(currently at home in the Caribbean). im going to portugal this smmer-late summer and im going to buy myself another board for the 4weeks of surf and to keep here in europe incase i visit somewhere on this side of the planet!

    my problem is that i dont know what to get. the dom is the perfect board for me. never had such a great time surfing as i have with the dom, although it may be slightly to large for me(could have gone with a 6.2 or maybe even a 6.0)(92kgs top fitness young). i believe that a 6.2 would be the perfect match for european surf as ive ridden the dom in well overhead clean conditions all the way down to fat gutless waves. my problem is, unfortunately, that i dont want to buy another dominator. its hard to explain, but its more or less futureproofing(maybe in 10 years when my life has settled down, i would ship my carib DOM to me...whats the point of having 2 then...right?) hope you understand what i mean :/

    so my deli-ma is this...which direction do i go? more hiperformance or stoke? or do i take a similar board to the dom?

    the sweet P has always interested me, as i love the natural, soft look the board gives(hence i got the dom), and ive always wanted to go extremely short(thinking 5.4 sp?). i believe that this board would give me a great time in portugal as in summer, most waves are smaller and weaker. unfortunately, it will make surfing the better swells a bit of a struggle...
    moving up, something like a spit or hellfire would also do me well. my surfing has progressed so much as to the point where i sometimes wished i had a sharper rail or more rocker than the dom when surfing some of our best home breaks. i sometimes felt that the dom was a bit stiff(could be due to size)... this could work in both direction...small and large swell
    moving up again, i land at the hiperf boards. the unibrow catches my eye. backfooted surfer, and once again nice curves and a natural organic shape interest me alot. ofcourse, this is more hiperf than the dom, and far beyond the sweet P, but having this board could mess up my holiday if the swell doesnt pump...

    sweetP: +small waves (more often)+fun+shorter -better waves(might get sketchy)
    spit/hellfire/smaller dom: +great reach(big and small swell)+move hiperformance than the sweetP+still fun -i own one already(moral conflict)
    unibrow/hiperf:+good/big waves+great surfing(again, according to swell) -bad lower end

    something tells me to take the sweet potato and muscle it out....but then again....it might get boring/ i wont get better...

    what would you do? please bare in mind my inner conflict with buying another dom(although if 20 people said its the wisest decision, id probably get one...)

    sorry for the longggg post. needed to let it out somewhere....

    thanks for any help in advance.

    p.s just found out that my father could bring my dom to me for 75 euro with condor from the caribbean. intotal it would cost me 150 euro to get it into portugal and another 75 back out....do i just buy a new board in port or bring mine with me?

    SweetP for Portugal summer surf?

    hey guys! as the post says, im going to portugal this summer for about 3 weeks with some friends, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice where to surf(cheap is better!), and how the waves are in summer? Im going to buy a FW but it solely depends on the conditions over there. Was thinking Sweet P or Baked P 5'4 or 5'6. I'm 193 tall and weight 90+kg(around 93 dry). Currently own a Dom 6'4 fst which i believe to be a little big for me(could have gone 6'2).

    p.s would also buy a used one in europe if anyone knows of one...

    thanks in advance

    Quad questions on my DOM

    hey guys! well, im finally back home for 3 weeks and got to surf yesterday and the day before. felt great to be out there at my home break, but i was surfed out after no more than 2 hours each day as i havnt surfed in approx 8 months :(

    anyways, i had some really weird things happen to me while i was surfing. the board felt great as usual, but something was fishy...the board seemed to ''twitch" and snap in different directions. one example was on my takeoff... the waves were about headhigh+ and everytime i stood up, the board would snap down the line faster than i thought it would. maybe my popup was rusty and i was standing bad, but it would snap so fast that i would almost be sent flying off the board as it slowed down...and after the snap(if i was still standing :P) i would have lost so much speed that the wave would be breaking right ontop of me. another instance was further down the line, when i went for a top snap and the board reacted lightning fast but stopped halfway through the turn and i found myself falling backwards as the board didnt get back under my feet. im an avid wakeboarder and i have a great feeling on the water, but for some reason the board didnt seem to do that that i was expecting it too...either being to quick or too slow, stopping midway or going too far....

    i know my post may be a bit well....confusing, but what i want to know is, is this a "quad" thing or was i just rusty or....i dont know... ive only surfed my dom maybe 20times since i got it, and have always ridding it as a quad, but this time it really scared me.... whats the general feeling you guys get on a quad vs thruster?

    thanks

    The Quad low down...can you help?

    hey guys.

    becoming an owner of a wonderful 6.4 dom fst,ive only shortly been in contact with quad fin sets. i never used them or even heard of them in my last 7yrs of surfing.

    what i would like to know is pretty much everything about them. yes i know they are faster and hold better than thrusters,but what i would love to find out is how they work together as a group. there are 100000s of combinations but not 1 website explaining how a more swept back front fin will work with an upright rear fin for example...

    i bought myself a 5 fin SF4 stretch set and am enjoying them totally,but dont have the wisdom to judge if i need bigger or more upright fins etc.
    ofcourse this has to do with experience and time on the water, but im dont have the possiblility to just buy and resell fins like most people do...

    so my questions.
    larger=more hold= stiffer board?
    smaller=less hold= skatey feel?
    upright= pivoty= less drive=bad for big waves?
    swept back= stiff= alot of drive= good for big waves?

    how do they corelate with one another? what if i take big fronts and small rears? the opposite? what about swept front and straight back? vice versa?

    ive had such an amazing performance boost using the Dominator and would love to progress my surfing not only physically but technically(science side) even more.

    i hope im not confusing anyone :P

    Stoked!

    Hey firewire!

    i just wanted to drop by and say thank you for making such a beautiful board. i just got my 6.4 FST dominator and i have to say it looks amazing. havnt been able to give it a try yet and i dont expect any waves soon,but i will be giving it a try behind the wakeboat tomorrow swaping out my sf4s and homemade knubsters to find a good combination for me. thanks alot:)

    p.s. was quite suprised as to how light and strong this board, and how thick it is... didnt expect that,but hey... it'll float my fat a**! ;p

    General volume question

    Hi guys. I just ordered a 6.4 dom. Im 195cm and weight 90+ kg. I used to surf a CI al merrick 6.6 19.1/2 /2 flyer 2. Im starting to think that i should havd gone smaller with the dom. Anyone has an idea or approximation of the volume of the flyer 2? I hope they are roughly the same...

    Sorry but im kinda worried i ordered the wrong board :(

    Dominator FCS box strength

    Hi everyone. I just baught my first firewire. A dominator 6 4. Im 195cm tall and 95kg heavy. Ive also started constructing my own fcs fins out of ply and fiberglass, and i was wondering how far i could take them. The dom has 5 slots and i was thinking of building my own quads, bonzers, twin and single fins to test and "maybe" surf, if they work ofcourse.

    My next project would be a center fin, similar to a longboard center fin. You know, long long fin with a in relation small base. What i want to know is if the fcs boxes would be strong enough to take such a force produced by the long fin.

    Im going to test all my funky creations behind a boat "wakeboard" style, as i dont want to waste the few good waves im hoping for this summer...

    Thanks
