Mcruz, I surf mainly up in San Francisco but we make it down to Santa Cruz to see friends. You might want to consider the Sub Scorcher. I love mine down in SC. At least for me, its wide, flat nose seem to work perfect in those waves- but it still rides like a shortboard. This is all personal opinion but I found the Spitfire to be too close to my fish type boards to help me push my surfing towards normal shortboard antics (needed more rail line and less width). I also just got a Unibrow, which is soooooo sweet, but it does have less nose volume/area and more rocker than the Sub Scorcher. It's still a hybrid but at 1L more volume it feels like is has about the same paddle power as the Sub Scorcher. But the Unibrow will handle those Ocean Beach type waves much better than the Scrocher. Hope some part of this rambling helped. Cheers

    What about the 29ers?

    Chris,

I love all your boards but can you please please please try and plug the gap in what volumes you offer. I'm right in the mid 29 volume range but below is all your boards that are awesome but skip that range ( pretty much everything). I'm tired of buying PU boards that are the right size but always break.

    Unibrow- 28.8 to 30.2
    Tomo- 28.8 to 32.2
    Chubby- 28.7 to 30.9
    V2- 29.0 to 32.0
    Minidriver-27.8 to 30.5
    Pile Driver- 28.8 to 32.1
    Hellrazor-29.1 to 30.9
    Dominator-28.1 to 31.0
    Potatonator- 28.2 to 30.3
    Sweet potato- 28.9 to 32.3
    Stealth - 27.8 to 30.5
    Sub Scorcher-29 to 32.5
    El Feugo- 28.6 to 32
    Activator- 29.0 to 32.8
    Alternator-28.6 to 31.3

Has anyone on here tried the stock dimension MD? It got stretched for Firewire- I think the stock 6'0 MD is 20in wide & 32L. Just wondering because it seems like the paddle complaints are much more common on this forum than others where most are riding stock. Shouldn't be any paddle complaints when i get a Rocket V2!!! :)

Can you give vague Unibrow sizes/details so I don't order a Hellfire and then be bummed I didn't wait? Or maybe just some details on which has a higher high end etc?

How much is too much on a short board? I have a 6'0 19.125 29.6L CI Flyer which is a perfect shape/size for my skills- but im always having to patch a ding blah blah. Back to Firwire. I think if I go 6'0 Alternator and +.375 on width and another +.125 on the nose it gets me to the exact same dimensions and volume. Is that too much on a shortboard? I'm no Nev, I don't want to mess with how all the different inputs work together.

I've had the HF/Alt and currently have a Sub. I love the Sub but I think it really depends if you like a straighter rail line for smallish wave boards or some curve. I really like the straighter rail line so have a strong bias towards the Sub. At least the way it feels to me, is I get more paddle and drive at a lower volume. The HF was fun but felt like it wanted to be on the rail more than my skills+the waves I usually ride allowed. I mainly surf in SAn Fran punchy beach breaks so I spend most of the time racing down the line trying to make sections- not trying to bury rails; so keep that in mind too. In those waves the Sub crosses over with an Alternator around the 4ft to 6ft mark. At 4ft I could ride either but prefer the Sub. At 6 I could ride the Sub but I really shouldn't and would have a much better time on an Alt

Hey Chris, I'm sure they're right but could you do a sanity check on the volumes. I know the relationships aren't linear to just length but there's a big jump from the 5'10 to 5'11- kind of right where I wish there wasn't. Why do you hate people who ride 29.5 volume hybrids? :). Thanks again and let's get details up on the board pipeline huh?? You don't want me wasting Xmas money on Apple products and lift tickets do you?

    5'8 to 5'9- +.7L
    5'9 to 5'10- +1.2L
    5'10 to 5'11- +2.2L
    5'11 to 6'0- +.7L

  • Is FST same as stock PU Sub Scorcher

I have an old PU Sub Scorcher I want to replace with a FST. But I swear I read something on the old message board or Matt's blog that he made some changes for the FireWire version. I can't find it now. Am I crazy? Anyone else remember seeing something similar?

Can you explain that Chris? According to the website the 6'0 Stealth and 6'0 Mini Driver are both 30.5 volume. I can't decide!!! Ugghhhh

Really. I haven't been able to feel one up but the description talks about "a fast, low nose rocker" for the Mini??

    Mini Driver vs Stealth

Chris (or anybody who has ridden both) can you give your version of the differences. I have an old 6'0 Stealth FST that I love, but it's just about been used up. Should probably just get another one but the Mini is intriguing. I know the rockers, bottom etc etc are different but their volume, nose width, width, tail width and stability are exactly the same on Board Formula. I'm guessing at the same size the Mini feels like it has more paddle because it has a lower nose and tail rocker?? Help me! Any and all opinions appreciated

I have the same situation. Have a Stealth, thinking about MD. I haven't been able to see a MD up close. At the same length the 6'0 Stealth volume and width are exactly the same as the MD. Obviously tail etc etc are different. Are those boards too similar to have in the same quiver??

Would an Alternator be a better board for a low intermediate than the MB because of the rocker difference? Need something for +5ft. If the MB has the same aggressive rocker as the Taj I'm thinking the more user friendly Alternator is the right call for a hack?

Hey Chris, I was looking to add a Quadra but had a question about volumes. The site says a 6'0 Quadra has slightly less volume than a 6'0 Alternator. Is that right? The Quadra is based off the Alternator templet, is the same 2.375 thickness AND .5 inches wider; but has less volume??

    Thanks in advance
