The QUADRA-5 Series combines the control of an Alternator thruster with the top end speed of a twin fin. We've pushed the wide point back slightly to create a fuller tail, while still maintaining an even curve throughout. Combined with FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY, the result is an extremely fast, loose surfboard, capable of handling a variety of conditions. For the next year we’ve added a rear center fin option, hence the name change from QUADRAFLEX to QUADRA-5.

Hey Chris, I was looking to add a Quadra but had a question about volumes. The site says a 6'0 Quadra has slightly less volume than a 6'0 Alternator. Is that right? The Quadra is based off the Alternator templet, is the same 2.375 thickness AND .5 inches wider; but has less volume??

I found a favorable variation in the Q-5 on the Web version dimensions vs the actual current product. the 6-6 Quadra five I bought was 1/8 inch thinner and 3/8 inch narrower if i recall correctly.
I called and asked Firewire about the variation. I agreed it was a better dimension.
The rails appeared thinner also when compared to the alternator side by side.

The information in the compare boards tool should be accurate. 28.5 for the Q5 and 28.7 for the Alt. Unless there have been very recent changes to the Q5 but I'd say that was unlikely with all the new models they have been working on.

Yeah Prj those assumptions are correct. That is the correct way to look at the numbers. We have our CAD team confirming all volumes and we'll be updating everything in the coming weeks so everything is consistent.

Quadra 5 is good for big, hollow waves?

I finally took delivery of my Q5 and after one surf can say I like it. Will it surf hollow waves? Absolutely. I surfed it today at 1.5x overhead and hollow and it was great. I still need to feel it out but it felt comfortable from the first wave. I'd imagine it would surf the same sort of range as any good shortboard - certainly 2x overhead and I can't imagine any issues 3x overhead other than rider fear. Beyond that though you'd have to be looking st a step up.

My son stumbled upon an old Quadraflex for next to nothing. I let him use my beloved Hellfire and we swapped boards for a few waves. All I can say is that the Quadraflex is by far and away my favorite board for steeper, larger waves. I have six Firewires, and absolutely love the way this board surfs. He, however, still prefers the Hellfire.
