Well, the very best thing is to try em. They are all great options but not all great options for every one. I love the entire FW line for sure.
5.10 Futura - What else do I need?
5.5 Baked Potato - Well ok, I need this.
5.11 El Fuego - Oh ok, just one more.

Truth. I demoed a BP and then ended up buying a PN thinking it would be more versatile. Now I want a BP because I'm having a hard time in some of the really small stuff. But had I never tried the BP or the PN I would never know the difference. And you have to really put it through it's paces, not just 1 or 2 surfs. I've been on the PN for only a few weeks now and I already know which types of waves I'd be using the Baked for.

mostly small to mid size beach breaks around here, I just want a board that paddles great and catches a ton of waves. I used the firewire volume calculator and it was putting me in the 50 to 60 litre volume?! thats got to be off right? again i'm 5'6" and 165 lbs.

Yeah, donger - that's off. Try it again... I'm 60 yr old, 190 lb, and 53 ltr is alot for me (but I like to paddle in early) :-)

I'm about your same size and at about a 33ltr board. You must have entered beginner with poor fitness I'm guessing. Based off that you'll probably want a longer railed board like the Potatonator or Dominator which will paddle a bit easier. If you have a chance to demo do it, it's the only way if you'll know if a board of 30-40ltrs will work for you or not.

    Donger,

If you are thinking SP I am selling one that would be your size for sure. I am 185 lb. 6'3" and the 5'6" SP is plenty of volume. Send me a message if you are interested. It is in perfect condition with a deckpad. ( I am in SC)

Thanks hwork50, I'll keep it in mind. Gonna have to get my hands on some demos somehow, to see which of these will work for me. Thanks to everyone who posted help.

BP 5.7 i think is the right choise because 6.0 spit and 5.10 pn overlap a lot. Also SP 5.8 is a super fun board for 1-3ft super weak closing out mushy beach break and 195 lbs rider and with SP 6.0 you cover all small to medium waves .Good luck.

Hi i'm brand new on this forum, and looks for advices on a baked potato or a potatonator for small waves (1' to 4' ) mushy with summer onshore winds in France.

    I'm 5'11 and 205, my daily driver is a dominator style 6'7 x 21 x2.75 quad that must be around 42 or 43 L.
That board should make me surf in small gutless mushy surf but be able to do its job in better surf as well.
Is the potatonator ok or should I go towards a baked potato?
