It IS a state of mind! Surfing better now than in my twenties. Their attitude changes so quick when you shower them with spray on a big cuttie. You get a lot more space out the back. Can't wait for the reaction with the Vanguard, hopefully show em some fins if i can work it out

Wisdom... I believe we are several on that "getting wiser" boat. I do also take more time to enjoy waves lately!

I'm still a Grom at 51 and have as much fun now as ever. I'm with Fan I tell my kids I've just hit middle age and am probably fitter than alot of 17 year olds, Move it or lose it I say, go hard or go home!! Iggy's right on with enjoying our waves more though, any day in the surf is better than a day at work. Age is definitely a state of mind, with age comes experience.

Could be that the boards these days are so much better than the ones you rode in your 20s! I surf better than I surfed in my teens and early 20s, like I can do manoeuvres now that I could not do back then and I think it is improved board design that is responsible for most of it, at least, in my case. Relative to my peers I think I was better back then.

Ah what am I talking about? Don't question the stoke!

I think u guys took my post the wrong way. I like being the "Old Guy" in the line-up. I like young surfers come up and try to show me what they got. It betters my surfing and theirs. In fact, it just makes me super competitive. I dont think i questioned anybody's fitness or skills due to age.

Hey Fokai...no offence intended... I just get a bit sensitive I guess at the thought 42 might be "old"...I used to think that when I was 25, but now I feel great bar a few injuries here or there. Surfing keeps me young for sure. But....I too have grey in my beard now and ....have often thought of reaching for the Grecian 2000, lol.

No worries. i get it. when i was 20, i wud paddle straight out to the best guy in the water, and if i didnt know him, i wud just move him out. nowadays, when ur the guy deep and have a beard like the dude from lord of the rings, the younger gen tries to move in. its really quite funny. i think the one question i get asked the most is "do u have a job, and if so, how can i do what u do?" because i surf everyday. here's another teaser w the 5'10
