I think a good way to look at it is to say, could you see yourself on a 5'6" Dom? Then the 2" up onto your Hellfire and Subscorcher would be easy to justify. I found my 5'8" Spitfire to be more volume than I needed, especially once the waves had a little bit of punch, but the 5'6" would be too short for me a 6ft tall. I was looking at the 5'8" Hellfire as a Spitfire replacement, with a Sweet P in mind to cover the junky conditions, but then I got the chance of a good deal on the Sub so grabbed it instead of a HF.

thanks chris! what size waves have you taken it out in for the most part? how would you compare the paddling ability to the 5'8 dom? have you tried to grovel with the 5'8? prjwebb did you get in today in the 5mm? this is the most i've ever debated on a board b4.. damn
if i went with the 5'8 i'd probably rock the g-ams to get drive off a smaller railed board.

Yeah I used it today in the hooded 5/4, still plenty of float but damn did i feel slow haha. Hopefully it's just because it's a brand new suit that needs breaking in and because I'm not used to it. I couldn't bare to feel like that all winter!
Huge swell all this week so I'll be getting in quite a bit hopefully!

Not quite as well, but better than my 6'2" Taj even though the Taj has a higher volume.

Yeah I concur with Prj. Doesn't paddle quite as well as the 508 Dom. I would say that the 508 is a good option if you want the minimal volume, but the 510 would work well for you too. It really comes down to what you are after and what you wear for suits, I think Prjs experience is valuable because the 508 is right about at the smallest someone our size would want to go. then you a heavy suit into the equation and an adjustment needs to be made.

thanks chris! yeah both of your inputs have been great.. btw what fins are you guys running on the sub? i was going to try the g-am pc's that i have when i eventually get the board.. so any news on the new ...lost models? the sub driver seems to be getting really popular and might be easier to put into firewire tech without the vee out the tail

I've been running k3s. I've been liking more raked fins in my really short boards. I try and counter that short rail line with extra hold in the fin, especially in bigger conditions.
I've got some Soar Powerbase DLs on the way do will see how they feel. That extra stiffness at the base could be really beneficial on a shorter board. They could end up staying in my Taj though.

Yeah I used the Jw-1s. Like PRJ a little more sweep. short shortboard THRUSTERS i like that kind of fin, short hybrid QUADS and THRUSTERS, I like the upright fins....WCTs, SF4s, K2.1s, etc.

    my choices.
