Thread: Potatonator: small wave assasinator?

    Fazza,

So which board does not get ridden anymore because of the P'nator?

    Sounds like fun stuff.

I havnt ridden one yet but my king fish and quad fishes will lose out and the sp in waves over waist high. I have a dom but i only ride it in chest plus surf. Here in nj waist to chest is the common sizing especially in the summer and late spring. Thats why i got the pn though. I Want all my boards to have a similar feel. Sp/pn/dom and hf. I think its a good quiver for an east coast intermediate surfer.

The 6'1 Hellrazor has displaced my 6'4 Taj Pro

The 5'8 PNator has displaced my 5'8 Dominator and 5'4 Sweet Potato

For me if the waves are 2ft up, fast, sucky, punchy the Hellrazor is the go........if the waves are 1-4ft little gutless, fat, wally point or beach breaks then the PNator will be the go.

I will keep the 5'8 Dominator as i still really like that board and take it out when its head high and in-between the above conditions........I prefer the dominator in head high waves with a bit of push.

    good stuff fazza.

I am in a similar boat. The hellrazor has taken a big chunk out of my Flexfire/Taj days, though I still like those boards when I am looking for a bit more rail...

I also do like my potato as a complement to my potatonator. I feel they like different enough waves....

    Cheers

Surfed the PNator today as a thruster with Future's Techflex AM2 at a left hand point break. Was 3-5ft on the sets and the board felt really good as a thruster on the bigger sets and i think i prefer it as a thruster on bigger waves and as a quad on smaller waves.

Unfortunately i won't be able to surf it for a little while as it got creased on my 4th wave. It may have happened at the end of the wave when i pulled out of the back of the wave and the board got caught by some white water........was probably shoulder high where i pulled out.

Shite happens as they say...........run about 1.5kms back to the car to get my Hellrazor then run back out to the point to keep on surfing..............not worried about it just got to fix it after it has dried out and get surfing it again as it is too good a board design not to.

I am demoing a 5'10 Pnator this weekend. For context, I am 41, 5'10, 75kg with 25+ years surfing. I've been riding a 5'6 Sweet P for the last 12 months (most people would say this is overvolumed for me but in small gutless waves, I have found that a bit of extra foam is the bomb.....the 5'5 Baked P looks interesting tho!)

I took the 5'10 out in head high plus Gold Coast open beachies and chest high Greenmount yesterday.

The paddle: There is an unbelievable amount of float packed into this little number which shouldn't be a surprise given it's genetics. I effortlessly caught anything that I paddled for, dropped in without any issues even on the steeper beachies. My observations are that it doesn't have the immediate get up and go of the Sweet P but for the Pnator for me, the steeper the wave the better. Therefore, I can see a definite differencial between the two boards and agree with Cuttles, with these two boards in your car you'll have 90-95% of your east coast of Oz surfs covered. I can easily see me surfing lazy high tide waves on my Spud then a quick switch a roo as the tide drops or vice versa. Paddling a 5'6 at a crowded Qld pointbreak can be challenging but not on the 5'10 Pnator therefore, it is a suitable point break board.......fortunately this is an important consideration for us folks:)

The ride: Fast and smooth. I got some nice turns in on the point, couple of floaters and as vertical a reo as I can do......it's certainly loose enough without sacrificing drive. having said all that, I am definitely going to give the 5'8 a go which I hope will give me even more pleasant surprises. The demo has Vector 2 quads but I love my Controllers in the Spud so will try them in the Pnator this arvo.....I have found the Controllers to be perfect in the Spud so would order a futures compatible Pnator. Then I can try Cuttles Robbers (!!!) and maybe even push the boat out and get a set of Rasta quad fins.

I'll let anyone who cares know as the experiments continue:)

Very interested in your feedback. Looking forward to your future posts . I ride the 5,6 spud and love it , also keen on the 5,10 or 5,8 potatonator.

Activator order has been put back due to no stock so its on hold and i have the cash ready to go, frustrating, keep reading the P'nator forum and have changed my mind. Need size advice 6'1 - 81kgs - 83kgs intermediate surfer already have an SP 5'6. Thinking 5'8 but worried won't be enough rail line and won't catch heaps waves but 5'10 maybe a boat. Any advice from those who have riden one.

If you compare the overall dimensions, litres and volume distribution of the 2 boards i do not think that a PNator 5'10 would be a boat for you at your weight and height.
