Taj looking solid but the inevitable happened... Busted board in the middle of the heat... Hopefully that will not cost him a heat in the future

Yeah he got some good scores in that last heat. Interested to see his post heat interview in a sec and see what happened there. Didn't look like anything was up with the board but after getting a 9 on it I don't see him switching unless he had to. Possibly once he established that lead he thought it was a good chance to test out another new one?

He just said in the post heat interview that he snapped the board. Said he was running his hand down both rails and felt the glass cracked on both sides.

Yeah. Must be glassed so light to be buckling boards in these conditions. At least he dominated the heat I guess. He's on my FS team after all.

Even if he likes the feel of a perfect magic pu board better the fact that he snapped it would make you think it would serve him better to stick to the FW. Now he has to find another good stick. I still think he looks better on the FW.

I think part of it is a lot of people commenting on how good he looks on those boards. If he figures the judges see it the same way it could mean an extra half point on a wave and potentially a heat win.
See what happens this year, but picking and choosing who's boards you ride depending on conditions is fair enough. AI used to, Julian does, Slater has in the past, Mick's doing it now. There's probably as many guys riding a bunch of different shaper's boards as there are guys who stick to the same shaper throughout the year. It'll be interesting to see how the year unfolds for him.

I find it interesting that he isn't get his new shapes in FW tech, since I'm sure it is an option for him.

They keep saying how good of a job the production has been for the TV and web casts. i would have to disagree. I went through the heats and watched every ones best waves. This contest has suffered from poor production. I have seen a lot of missed shots as in not showing the drop in on barrels and not showing the finish of waves. Not showing the wave in regular speed and only showing the slow mo replay. One thing in particular was in one of JJFs heats he does a great finishing move and instead of showing it they faded out to show someone else getting a jet ski ride, seriously this is a surf contest not a jet ski ride contest. Who gives a f$%^ about someone riding the ski when we can see a super critical move by a top athlete.
