Stuck in the Middle

so im set on the Potatonator and im thinking that 5'10" is the rigt size for me. The only board that i can find locally has futer fins. I have never used futers and it looks like they have a much smaller sellection than FCS fins. It looks like the Futers would hold into the board better that the FCS, but im concerned about the limmited selection. I am ready to by the board, but stuck in the middle once again. i read somwhear that the potatonator is suppose to be ridden as a quad. would the quad streach in futers be a good choice? I also read in another thread that Cuttlefish likes this board in a thruster. Any suggestions on fin type or set up?

Have you got an opportunity to demo fins?
I've just received my FAMT robbers (twin/trailer) and they work really well.
Cool thing about them is you can buy an additional trailer (inexpensive) and run them as a quad.
Here in OZ a set of Robbers retail for $150 but in the US they are only $70 or so with free shipping on Ebay.
One of the guys from the local surfshop who rips uses the robbers as a quad on his sweet potato and loves that set up.

jj, the dominator is great in little waves, but to saxman's point, i don't think you want to go any bigger than the 600 just to try to get into smaller surf. you are better off getting a proper Dominator size and then addressing the smallest wave size at a later date. I don't think you are wrong considering the dom in the 510-600 range, keeping in mind that everyone has slightly different preferences and needs.

Regarding the potato, in steep little barrels, I would actually push you towards the potatonator or the el fuego over the potato. to me, small barrels imply a wave that is at least stomach to shoulder high because otherwise it won't be tall enough to get into. A wave that size that is hollow enough to get some cover is going to be racing and steep, something the tail of the potato might limit you on. Its hard to hug a tight little barrel on a board with a wide tail. The dominator may be the board to go with in these conditions as well if you are already considering getting one.

Well guys I went out friday and and picked up a potatonator. 5'10" is what I decided to get and now im waiting for waves. I did take it to the beach yesterday and paddled around a little bit and the 5'10"paddled like dream. I think that this board it exactly what i was looking for. Putting my hands on this board realy helped me make up my mind. I went with the rasta quad set up for fins and i will give an update when i get a chance to surf it.

Sorry so long in between post, but i wanted to give an update on the potatonator. the first time i had surf it was 5-7' fast and punchy. I bit it just about every take off. i found that the rail cought and held way to much. later that day i went to a spot that was week 2-3' and i cought more waves and had more fun in 1 hour than i did in the 5-7' in 3 hours. this bord rode great in the small stuff. i have been surfing about 4 times this month and i am loving this board.i have surfed 1'-5' and let me tell you, i love this board. i was worried about getting a 5'10", boy was i wrong. this size board is perfect for me, it paddles, it duck dives, it catches waves, its an awsome creation. i am learning the board better every time i use it, put a littel pressure on your front foot and you fly, to much rail and it gets stuck. i just took one of the fins out of the rasta quad set and turned it into a thruster, now she turns on a dime, but this makes you want to burry the rail more. the quad set up feels like it holds to much, but im going to keep playing with it. Bottom line i recomend this board to anyone looking to catch more waves and still have good performance. i havent hade this much fun in the water for a long time, everyone should own one of these.
