    Firewire Teamrider Update

Firewire has ended our exclusive sponsorship of Taj as he has decided to experiment with both FW and PU surfboards. At his specific request, Firewire will continue to build Taj cutting edge equipment and we are obviously stoked on everything we accomplished together over the past 5 years. There is no doubt that during that period it is commonly acknowledged that Taj did some of his best surfing ever and certainly posted his best contest results in years, winning a number of WCT events including the Quiksilver Pro, the Billabong J-bay event and the Pipe Masters.

As always, we’ll remain glued to the CT webcasts and we hope that Taj claims that ultimate prize that has eluded him to date. We’re also confident that Firewire surfboards will remain an integral part of his equipment choices as he pursues that quest.

Strange, I had a feeling this was coming. I almost asked you about it earlier.
It's a shame, I don't think he's looking so good on the Mayhem at the minute. Seems to have that little extra twang on the FWs.

Will the Taj Pro Model still be available?

Yeah, if/when he buckles a board at a critical moment in a heat it'll be interesting how he reacts to that.
I think sometimes it helps to step away and ride something else and then you get a new appreciation for what you've been using.
Maybe a year on different equipment will help.

Yeah folks its not a bad thing. Taj reached a point where he wanted to do what a lot of the elite pros on tour are doing: grab a board made by a specialist for certain conditions. Totally understandable. Think Slater when he would ride Simon Anderson at JBay. The only bummer is we have to maintain a less formal relationship if he is stepping onto other boards so in the end, he isn't officially a team rider. He is surely continuing to get boards and if/when he thinks the conditions suit his Firewires best, he'll ride them.

At this point, the Firewire tech is tried and true, AND we have a Top 10 rider in Michel AND we have a diverse team of local and regional pros as well as the reigning World Longboard Champ. THings are good for Firewire. Stoked to have all the support we do.

    Cheers!
