Buzzy I demoed a 6'2 Dom but it didn't feel right. It paddled ok but wen I got up it felt too small. Couldhave been da skegs at 1 st I tried as thruster didn't like it then quad felt little better. After trying it out I'm wondering if I should check out 6'4 but it might be too floaty. It seems like the vol. is the 6,2 for me but was having a hard time on it tried it twice. Can anyone give me advice. G. Mahalo

There's not a huge amount of difference in volume between the 6'2" and 6'4" Dom. I think one is 38 point something litres and the other 40 point something. So like 2 litres, or 5% difference. If you didn't feel the 6'2" was overvolumed you probably could get the 6'4" to add a bit of length without it becoming too corky.

My experience of the Dom was that it felt a bit...the only word coming to mind is "vague"...when I first started using it. It was loose, but not particularly directional in the sense it didn't seem to offer much drive. Maybe this is what you mean when you say it felt small? My "fix" on this was simply to be a bit more aggressive. If I drove the board from turn to turn the fins made the board much more directional and drivey. Add in the flex and I really felt the board transformed from passive to really quite reactive and directional.

One thing this board differed from my other (then) small wave board was in passive drive on takeoff. My other board had a fair bit more nose area, possibly similar to an El Fuego, but not as flat a rocker as I remember the El Fuego being. My best guess on the closest relative in the Firewire range would be the sub scorcher, but with more volume a la a Dom. Anyway, on that shape I tended to have more immediate speed on takeoff - it had more drive when being passive, if that makes sense.

This isn't to suggest your experience of the board matches mine - just offering some observations.

Anyway, it is probably worthwhile to at least demo the 6'4" Dom. It's probably worthwhile to also have a look at a 6'1" or 6'3" El Fuego and a 6'2" or a 6'4" Sub scorcher.

    Cheers!

gkekoa, I have been riding the 6-3 Activator for 3 sessions now, (deemed a Dominator 2.0 with a dbl wing swallow) I highly recomend that board with large AM-2 fins as a tri or quad trailers of the Rusty 5 fin set 3.8", It feels a bit more drivey than my 6-4 dominator.
The activator is my choice now when its up to head high, pockety and fun, loving this board.
I will keep my Dominator as my groveler for mush and slop, but still hit the lip or cutback if there is a sweet spot on the wave. Whereas most will ride the Sweetpotato, Baked potato or the Potatonator

Thanks guys , I finally figured out my hellfire 6.6 I'm finally getting my feet back on the tail pad and it makes a big difference. Really positive turns. Gonna order a 6.4 hellfire cuz I think it's gonna be the best all around for me. I'm gonna hold off on the Dom. Just from my experiences so far. Activator sounds interesting , a friend is ordering one I'll wait to see what he thinks. For some reason so far I like. Quads with my FireWire boards. I try thrusters and they just spin out on steeper waves wen I bottom turn. I am mixing my fins I have Simon Anderson front with rusty rears and a nubster I made. So far best combo. SA r too stiff and rusty set is too loose. nubster seems to really add the follow thru on turns. On a weak right handed wave I made my first top bottom turn on it and it followed thru . Usually I get hung up or the board runs out gas. Can't wait to see wat the lesser volume and width do for my turns I hope it still paddles well. Mahalos, g
