Sydney winters only require a 2/3 steamer, sometimes only a 2/2 but I guess if I had to I would. My first trip to California in 1984 (also the Olympics) I took a board and went surfing Trestles, and San Onofre with just board shorts, It was just bearable, even Mexico (just over the border at Rosarito) was cold but once I went north I got as far as Morro Bay and had to buy a 4/5. I don't think the water temperature in Norcal changes much in winter, it seems the air temps come down to match the water's.

Anyway with these new super light fast drying neoprenes how much does a steamer weigh these days? I'm thinking the new fast drying ones wouldn't hold much water when wet anyway.
    Jesus is coming, look busy!
Moving forward or just spinning faster?

Ive had the potato out in double head high fat reef break on the west of ireland, its a real easy big left of a wave - and after half an hour I went in and got my dominator. The take offs on such a short wide board are quite hairy, all your turns at this size are high speed and the fat brute needs too much nursing. You will have fun and go faster than you would imagine possible but wipe out more. Picture attachedlissadell.jpg

The wave is quite fat after the take off, this suits the family friendly spitfire, its where that board excels
