    Crew,

Here's a new way to compare boards. Its still in beta form (not live yet) but we're excited about it.

Invaluable for experienced surfers to interpret the numbers.
Look forward to using the function when it's fully operational with all the boards available.
I like the term definitions down the bottom too ie bouyancy, stability...
    Good work.

Great tool Mark, the only problem I've noticed is the board volumes are different to what is listed in your volume guide.
I just ordered a 6.0 stealth because its volume guide states it's 30.5, as i ride a 6'4 Taj which floats me good, and the guide states it has a volume 29.9.

The Board formula says the 6.4 Taj has a volume of 33, and I'm a bit worried the 6'0 stealth not going have enough volume.

    Which one is correct?

Yeah stylar don't worry. this literally went operational in the last day. we will have everything super smooth in no time.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Chris. So i guess the volume guide is correct then, and the new board formula volumes are off?

    You guys are on it!

Boardformula uses a complex algorithm to scan the single board image we supply, map out the relationships between multiple points on that outline and then extrapolates that data to create the scaling for larger lengths. We’ve crosschecked it against our volumes and the variances are negligible in our opinion (a couple % up or down). If you want to be that specific, the volumes on our quiver section are 100% accurate.

We are however uploading all of our nose and tail dims into BF.com’s database and it will then use that info to scale the boards even more accurately. This will make the resultant volumes even more accurate on the Comparison page.

    Thanks for your patience.

The highlight of my day! Countless hours will be spent comparing boards. Pretty psyched on it. Thanks for putting this up.

Nice. I see volumes are not exact yet, I bet due to rail thickness. For example, the Flexfire 6'2" (2-1/2" version) is thick at the center but has low rails. The inflated volume stated by Board Formula is likely based on thicker rails.

    Still awesome thus far.

Yeah as Mark explained the volumes are off because they are scaled off a smaller board then scaled up for the longer length boards. eg . For the Taj model they probably sent the 5'11 or 6'0 board dims. Then the software uses a mathematical algorithm to scales these up for the consecutive sizes.
As we all know a board doesn't scale proportionally thicker as the board gets longer, so that's why the volumes listed are higher then whats in the quiver section. You may also notice the nose and tail dims for the bigger boards are similar to the smaller size board, which Mark has said they're updating those too.

Will be great once all is fixed.

Mark are you going to add the Lost models too? I noticed they had them on Boardformula.com site but it didn't list the volume for either board.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the enthusiasm. By tomorrow, everything should be up to date. Soon after the Lost models will be available. Rocker comparisons will be up in two weeks.

If you still see problems in two days, (specs or images that seem wrong) let me know. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi i notice the 6-4 stealth is 43L on compare boards and 38.5L in your tables...is the 38.5L one correct?

    current quiver:
    11-0 munoz glide
    6-8 guts mule
    6-6 jp s2
    5-8 fst sweet P

old firewires had but now gone:
    6-4 stealth fst
    6-4 rapidfire alernator
    6-6 alternator
    6-6 alternator

its 38.5L.   We're in the middle of getting all of that stuff dialed because there are a few that are off.

    Thanks for the heads up.

    Chris,
A question regarding the board comparison function.
What does the balance point measurement mean? and how is it measured.
    Thanks

it has to do with the distribution of mass in the board.  think of a seesaw.

    Thanks Chris,
I thought so, I assume the measurement is from the nose?

Balance Point is measured from the tail. This tells you how the volume and surface area are distributed lengthwise. If the Center of Buoyancy is below the midpoint, then the bottom half of the board has more volume and more surface area.

Surface Area is the measurement of the planing area on the bottom of the board. It is a good indicator of lift beyond paddling speeds (5mph).

Stability is related to the distribution of surface area. This indicates how stable you will be at low speeds. A stability value of 1.00 would indicate that a 150lb surfer does not even need to be moving to stand stably on a surfboard...Most SUP's stability values are greater than 1.00. The lower the stability value, the more speed the surfer needs to stay stable. Essentially better surfers can ride boards with a lower stability ratings.

How come the longboards are missing from this application? I would also like to comment that the more I visit your site the more it looks outdated technology wise and it's not in par with the image of the company.

thanks constl. I have 100% the opposite opinion and will kindly disagree with you. I think most people agree that we have worked hard to make our resources stand out a great deal.
