Nose & Tail Dimensions and Volumes

Crew, until we get them up in the quiver section (soon), here are the nose and tail dims. I've only posted the FST models as the spec are the same in any tech. The first letter is the tech - so all of these start with 'F unless that Series only comes in Rapidfire'. If you want to crosscheck against the quiver section for any reason, just switch out the 'F' for a 'R" to Rapidfire of an 'X' for Crossfire. (Note Crossfire's are not up on the site yet, but there are pix on the forum, just use the SEARCH function above. Please note if any model is offered in DD or RF technology (see website for those details), the dimensions would be the same)

I'm trying to decide between the Stealth and the Futura...are these volume numbers right? The 6'0 Futura has a wider nose, middle and tail than the 6'0 Stealth but less volume?

Spjones123 - there is only a 3% difference in thier respective volumes which could easily be a result of a slightly thicker foil and rail volume in the Stealth versus the Futura. Remember the thickness is at the center of the board, so how it flows from there to the nose, tail and rails is going to have a big impact on the volume.

Thanks markp, it's Certainly narrower in the tail the the Dominator I was eyeing up.

Finally Got to check one out a few days ago, a 7'6 and could only just get my arm around it. Fat little suckers aren't they!
While I'm sure it performs as it should that extra meat and fancy rail was a bit disconcerting to my rather conservative tastes so I will probably wait until a demo is available before committing.

Also I see Spitfires are the exact same volumes as Dominators however that Spitfire diamond tail looks to be way wider (on the website at least) which I imagine would also offset the desired effect of the step-tail.

Still none in the stores around here so are you able to dig up any tail/specs for the Spitfires?

    Hey surfbum,
regarding the photos, the tails of the Dom and the Spitfire are a little closer than they look on the site, have a look at the photos below. The stepdown rail also DEFINITELY adds a bit of bite and gives the board some extra life when pushed hard. Note the red indicates where the step in the rail begins.

    Hope this helps.

    oooh that looks way nicer!

On the main quiver page the spitfire almost looks like some sort of squaretail kneeboard

Yeah I know, it does look a little off. We'll get that fixed up.

hi i have an alternator 6/8 could you clarify the volume of this board inthis chart it's 39.9 but in your main volume chart it's 39.4, i got the board 2 yrs ago. i'm in the process of getting a spitfire 6/2 or 6/4 & am just tring to compare volumes, would there be a significant difference dropping to the 6/2 @ 38 litres, i've tried a 6/4 dom and noticed the extra volume[41.5] but enjoyed the float and it surfed really well cheers steve.

    Hey Steve,
Thanks for the heads up. The volume for the currently produced Alternator is 39.9L. Just FYI, the difference between 39.4 and 39.9 is about 1.1% so don't fret too much there.

As for choosing the proper spitfire, I would say the experience you had when riding the 6'4 is very important in your consideration. The 6'4 spit will float very comparably so try to envision owning a board with that much float. If that is what you are looking for, then yeah the 6'4 is your board. If you want a bit less float, make the step down.

    Cheers

hi chris thanks for the feedback, so if i went with the 6/2 spit my calclations say that i would be siurfing a board with 4/5 % less volume than my alternator, now the 64000 dollar question would there be a significant/noticeable difference, paddling, catching and riding? cheers steve[ loads of the posts i,ve read seem to sway to a shorter option ive srfed the 6/4 dom but only three waves, and my mate wanted it back!!]

    hey Steve,
there will be a bit of a difference between the 6'2 and 6'4, but not to the point that the 6'2 will feel unusable. It will simply offer the benefits and drawbacks of a slightly smaller board. So to answer your question concisely, yes, you will feel a difference. I would say its really up to your personal preference as to which will be a more suitable board. Look at it this way, you are going to love the board either way. You just have to make the decision and be mentally in tune with it. trust your instincts a bit.

Have you guys thought about adding numbers to the "Compare Foils" page? I know the Stealth has a lot of tail kick and a somewhat relaxed entry but I feel like my eyes play tricks and it look like the Flexfire. If you threw numbers on stock 6'0 models It'd be easier to see the differences.

Sorry for being knit picky, your website already has more info than anyone in the biz.

sorry SPjones, can you clarify?  are you speaking of rocker values for each board?

yeah, on this page http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/quiver_foils.php?boardid=foils  there's no numbers. it's hard to actually tell what has more/less rocker because there aren't any units

Thanks that's helpful. Anyway you could throw up one more groveller like the Dom or Sub Scorcher to compare to the Stealth? The Flexfire is a pretty aggressive shape. Cheers

    6'0 Dom

    nose 4.78"   tail 2.19"

flatter tail, little better through the flats, maybe a slightly better call for smaller/weaker surf.

Quadraflex (now Quadra 5) 6'10" specs show a 15 1/2" Nose.  Can someone from FW please check this?  Based on the dimensions of the other boards my guess is that the correct size is around 12".

    thanks!

15.5 is what my spreadsheet is showing which means there was a typo somewhere.   I'll see if I can get it figured out, but your estimate is right.   probably a little bit under 12" based on the other lengths.

Cheers and thanks for the heads up.
