when did you post your repair thread? were you doing that today? or was this an ongoing older thread?

it was a week or something old, but had been posted in today. in my profile section it says chris posted a response but when i click to go to the thread the page is blank.

It was in the repairs section, looks like only the general section has been transferred over so far?

Good to see FW has a continuous improvement approach. Questions - how do I access discussions that I have bveen following i.e. Deviant Fin? Do the categories still exist eg AddVance which I follow?. Thanks

  • JustinJustin November 2010
    Posts: 105

the deviant fin is under "technology"

    http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/forum.php#/discussion/242/the-deviant-fin/

everything should still exist ... just moved around ... trying looking in categories in the right side column ... sorry for the confusion

I like everything about the new forum, but I don't like that you cannot automatically see the pictures. You have to click on the link to open the picture. I liked it better when you would open the discussion and there would be a BIG OL' picture of Nev doing some crazy sh@t and/or a picture of Iggy riding his board in the snow somewhere. That is my one and only complaint. Maybe it is my computer though. Is this going to be the norm?

    Corepersonaltraining:

to access the forum within the structure of the Firewire website go here:
    http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/forum.php

i'll look into options for better displaying personal info ... but for now, the sig area will work

to access the forum for mobile phones/devices go here:

email notification links are still a little screwy ... i'm working on resolving that

i've been talking with the forum software devs and they clued me in to making images appear inline ... when you click "attach a file", "select file" and after it uploads .. there's an "INSERT IMAGE" button ... if you click that it will insert the image inline ... like soimage

another way to track discussions ... if you're in the 'discussions' view ... all the way right, there is an outline of a star ... star that and in your activity it will keep a list of what's going on in discussions you are watching

I have clicked on the star and commented on a number of posts, but I never receive email notifications anymore.  When I come to the forum home page, I do have a red indication sign over my inbox tab, but that is as far as it goes at notifying me.

the best way for now is to star a discussion and login and look for the red indicator over your inbox tab.

we're working with the developers to resolve that. that's the only thing I miss. you can check discussions from time to time and see who posted last on a particular thread, but its not as good as the notifications. hope to have a solution soon.

Iggy, we changed the format because a newer "better" version of the forum software was released ... it's worth staying up to date on software releases like that as they are usually plug security holes and offer better features. however, as is obvious, things aren't always perfect. all in all, i think this forum is superior to what we had. i'm still learning how certain things work, such as the notifications issue ... which i've been trying to track down.

Meddle, i hear what you're saying, i'll look into it, although it won't be right away.

if you're talking about the star next to the thread in the conversations view, that's the "bookmark/follow' symbol, you should be able to just click/uncheck that

if not, then just ignore it for the time being.

we're working furiously on getting the general email notifications working ... i'll look into all this smaller stuff after that's complete

The unsung heroes.  Thanks, Justin, for trying to make the forum a more user friendly place.  Just a quick note, I sometimes have a issues while writing in the comment box.  The page will freeze up on me while I write in a comment or if I try to go back and edit a specific comment it won't let me.  Not everytime, but more times than not.  I thought it might be my computer, but it happens on my PC, my laptop, and other people's computers too.  All with the same outcome.
