when i was there it was super uncrowded, fun waves everyday, boiling hot, bath warm water and great parties on friday nights. can't beat that! i'm sure having a couple local guides would be a great thing too!
Yeah April is what I threw out. Beginning of the south swell season with off shores still dominating. Make it happen. Maybe I'll bring 2012s....
April is an amazing month to be here for great surf conditions. Good winds, nice south swells. There are some epic waves around here and lots of other places to make some great memories. Shoot me or Chito a message and we will start getting things set up. The best would be to plan it all out and get it arranged beforehand.
April aye. Were in Costa Rica are you?
I was last there in 2K, Mal Pias was my fav. Ollies Point was a bummer, 1-2', same with Witches Rock. However that entire region was really developed with day glow pink condos compared my very first venture there back in 97'.
In fact Playa Longosta as I recall, was a great estuary type break which disappeared and was some Euro condo development, a real bummer. I can only imagine what has happened since the real estate boom.
However it seems as though the CR gov does place value on preservation of natural resources so who knows.
Jaco was about as South as we ventured, gnarly beach breaks are all I recall there. The Carribean side was balistic and gnarly reefs, I was just learning and didn't go out. Plus my equipment was very lame.
Would really like to revisit CR.
Should we take talk of the trip offline or just post on this thread?

Hey guys, no idea how stoked it makes me to hear you all frothing about this. Has been something boiling in my brain for a while now. Me and Canadian both live down here in CR full time, been here our whole lives and we know what swells and tides every break in the area break best on so we can always get the best waves.
Hey man if you were in Mal Pais in 2k, you came to eat at our place. Remember the Mambo Cafe right in front of Playa Carmen, right up the way from Surf Camp. Remember the fish burger, and the crazy antics?
I propose the week of the monday the 16th and we just assault the point breaks. I have heard good things about the Mal Pais point breaks.
I only surfed the beach breaks but they were really fun. So empty on the dawnies as well. We'd surf from 6 until 10 with hardly anyone out.
Hey Chitto, sorry man I don't recall but it was a while back.
Do you know Isaac? He was there too.
I recall that cafe having good food man, yum.
Yo Chris, yea that date sounds good.

I'll have a look at prices, talk to the guys in house here and see what I can bring for boards....and get back this week.
School, pfffftttt :)
I found later in life, school will always be there. But will opportunities?
I guarantee that on my death bed, I won't say to myself; "gee, wished I had spent more time at school or at work" :)
This is how I justify ditching to go surf.

haha! i personally think school is the most important thing. actually was set to be a teacher until the Firewire job opened up. actually that means I am being a little hypocritical, but that week IS public schooll break for the northeast and teacher buddy of mine is planning to come if we make it happen.
Yea man, you better hurry up, that long wall could disappear at a moments notice.
Costa Rica, eh, you've see one wave, you've seen em all :)

The beach breaks have been firing guys. Offshore all day long for the last week with 6-8 ft waves, a couple days were 10ft but the quality has just been mental. Barrels all over the place and just good waves all around so if we dont score any point break stuff its not like we will go without waves hahah.
woke up at 4 50 today, walked down to the beach and the first thing i saw before i even put a foot in the sand was a spitting barrel, turned around and ran back to the house to grab my stuff. surfed from 5 am until 10 30 because i needed food. the whole time it was perfect glass with light offshore wind, at the lower tide it was barreling really hard and i managed to make it out of 4 barrels that session before the tide got a bit higher and it turned into the rippable playground it was most of the afternoon. had to work from 11 till 2 but i checked it every hour and it was always sheet glass and bombing through 4-6ft with overhead sets. at 2 I went back out and it was still perfection, so glassy at one point that i couldnt see the wave infront of me that i was surfing, felt really strange. surfed from 2 until 5 and that session was almost even better than the first one, it took 1 paddle to get into the waves easy drop right into the barrel, stall a bit and than come out or race the section if you got a fast one. Came out of 4 more barrels that session including one that was about 4 seconds from the peak to the beach where i managed to backdoor a big section that threw over and race it all the way through.
Bros, what Chito says is true. We surfed ALL day on our Hellfire's. It was insane. Nice swell from the Southwest pushing some mental rights through. Our Dad, (58) got pitted off his ass today and came out of the barrel AFTER the spit.
If I can sort a flight for a decent price I'm there. How much are we looking at for rooms? If I come for a month?
Last time I stayed up at the Israeli place. Can't remember the name, but it was nice there. They gave us a ride down to the good banks on the back of the quad.
Will be good to go back to Santa Teresa, loved it last time!
Well, its me +1, my wife.
That Futura I bought all those years ago, was a gift for her (at least so I said, pulled a Homer Simpson). She's never surfed and isn't keen on our cold SoCal water.
I've been surfin that puppy since and I suppose its fitting that she finally surfs it :)

How much we looking for with this hotel. ??? I am about 85% in. Just have some legal issues coming up (not criminal...business, before you all start wondering who I might have rubbed out!!). Once I know the dates for that , as long as they dont conflict I am there.
yeah agreed. there were some hostel things in the area when I was there, like $1.50 a night or something but it's pretty minimal. wooden shack crawling with mozzies. or just pile a bunch of us in a little bungalow?
Yo Chito,
Actually, I'll do accommodations. Your site; mambosurf.com says to email for info so I'll do that.
I'll just need the dates when available, to plan around when every one else will be there as I'd like to meet them.
My wife prefers something on the nicer side and seeing that I work like 20 hours a day in IT (of the top 10 most hated jobs of 2010, 5 were IT - Yahoo poll) I too concur with my wife.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay but I have the prices. The Hotel rooms for those who would prefer one over a patch of grass are between $80-$100 a night. They have AC, TV breakfast included every morning at 9. The Hotel is right on the beach, like literally the sand is 5 feet away from your door step. Its nothing super fancy but the truth is that you wont be spending alot of time in your room, with there being so many things to do and see you will always be busy.
