April is an amazing month to be here for great surf conditions. Good winds, nice south swells. There are some epic waves around here and lots of other places to make some great memories. Shoot me or Chito a message and we will start getting things set up. The best would be to plan it all out and get it arranged beforehand.

Back in the water soon, 6 lessons today, have a few more later! It's been howling offshore all day today!

April aye.  Were in Costa Rica are you?

I was last there in 2K, Mal Pias was my fav.  Ollies Point was a bummer, 1-2', same with Witches Rock.  However that entire region was really developed with day glow pink condos compared my very first venture there back in 97'.

In fact Playa Longosta as I recall, was a great estuary type break which disappeared and was some Euro condo development, a real bummer.  I can only imagine what has happened since the real estate boom.

However it seems as though the CR gov does place value on preservation of natural resources so who knows.

Jaco was about as South as we ventured, gnarly beach breaks are all I recall there.  The Carribean side was balistic and gnarly reefs, I was just learning and didn't go out.  Plus my equipment was very lame.

Would really like to revisit CR.

Should we take talk of the trip offline or just post on this thread?

Hey guys, no idea how stoked it makes me to hear you all frothing about this. Has been something boiling in my brain for a while now. Me and Canadian both live down here in CR full time, been here our whole lives and we know what swells and tides every break in the area break best on so we can always get the best waves.

We live in the Santa Teresa/Mal Pais area of town which is one of the least developed areas in the country and has uber consistant beach breaks that will make the most crowded day of the year make you feel like you are surfing alone. In terms of best time of year April is on the money, usually always really good swell activity in april, the weather is really good and the offshores last most if not all of the day during that time.
Summer is already here, today was howling offshore all day long with barrels at low tide and rippable walls at high tide. didnt get to surf any of it since we had to give lessons all day but it sure as hell looked fun.
As far as what we have for waves its mostly beach break, there are reefs though and some really amazing point breaks. the Points light up on a south swell and if you score them good than you will just be frothing for about 3 years. 400 yard rides of super walled up rippable righthanders that you can do anything you can imagine on.
Would be great to have you all down here and there is no doubt that it would be a good time. If things shape up and we get a head count me and my brother can arrange accomodations and transportation from the airport to area. Its what we do.
    sooo pumped!

haha!  i personally think school is the most important thing.  actually was set to be a teacher until the Firewire job opened up.  actually that means I am being a little hypocritical, but that week IS public schooll break for the northeast and teacher buddy of mine is planning to come if we make it happen.

And yes, if i come, i promise at least 1 new model will make it with me....

But, however, I can't sell them because we made our samples out of diamond

The beach breaks have been firing guys. Offshore all day long for the last week with 6-8 ft waves, a couple days were 10ft but the quality has just been mental. Barrels all over the place and just good waves all around so if we dont score any point break stuff its not like we will go without waves hahah.

Although yea, some point break surf would be nice, one particular wave is my favorite wave in the world when its working but the thing about the points over in mal pais is that they need a big south swell for them to work, like under 200, below 190 is ideal but inbetween the two can sometimes produce some nice surf.
Stoked that this is solidifying guys, it will be a killer time good food, good surf and good times!
And chris you should bring a FST Hellrazor that comes in around 28 liters and I can help you make it disappear hahah

woke up at 4 50 today, walked down to the beach and the first thing i saw before i even put a foot in the sand was a spitting barrel, turned around and ran back to the house to grab my stuff. surfed from 5 am until 10 30 because i needed food. the whole time it was perfect glass with light offshore wind, at the lower tide it was barreling really hard and i managed to make it out of 4 barrels that session before the tide got a bit higher and it turned into the rippable playground it was most of the afternoon. had to work from 11 till 2 but i checked it every hour and it was always sheet glass and bombing through 4-6ft with overhead sets. at 2 I went back out and it was still perfection, so glassy at one point that i couldnt see the wave infront of me that i was surfing, felt really strange. surfed from 2 until 5 and that session was almost even better than the first one, it took 1 paddle to get into the waves easy drop right into the barrel, stall a bit and than come out or race the section if you got a fast one. Came out of 4 more barrels that session including one that was about 4 seconds from the peak to the beach where i managed to backdoor a big section that threw over and race it all the way through.

Made it out of 8 barrels today and pulled into about 100, all day was perfect conditions with perfect sized surf and no one out. Didnt do a single real turn today, just focused on getting shacked and my hellfire performed magically and i am so beyond stoked right now i might just pass out. going to get up at 5 again tomorrow and in between getting barreled all day ill see if I can take a picture or two to show you guys whats waiting for you down here.

Bros, what Chito says is true. We surfed ALL day on our Hellfire's. It was insane. Nice swell from the Southwest pushing some mental rights through. Our Dad, (58) got pitted off his ass today and came out of the barrel AFTER the spit.

Chito pulled into a shit ton of tubes, made some pretty damn long ones.

I got one of the most memorable barrels of my life today. Dad was in the flat paddling out way down the shoulder as I pulled in, I zipped right past him with him staring me in the face, jaw dropped with a double shaka going. We exchanged hoots and I shot out of the barrel 15-20 yards past him.

It was seriously one of the best surfs I have ever had. Like I told my brother, my legs hurt more than my arms, and that for me is a first. I spent so much time riding and turning my board today. I LOVE this thing with AM2's. Haven't switched them yet, don't think I ever will.

For serious guys, let's set this up in the last part of April, there is a hotel we can book you into RIGHT NEXT TO OUR HOUSE. You will be right on the beach. The sand is 1m out your doors. It can handle up to 16 people. SUper low key, AC, cold beer, surf. What else do you want? Fishing trips can be arranged, and at that time there are tons of fish around.

Let's make this happen and get it done. Would be a great way for people to see the tech down here, spread the word about FireWire, and Chris you could probably sell 10-15 boards while you are here.

Cheers guys, will get some pics and videos up here tomorrow.

That Futura I bought all those years ago, was a gift for her (at least so I said, pulled a Homer Simpson).  She's never surfed and isn't keen on our cold SoCal water.

    Yo Chito,

Actually, I'll do accommodations.  Your site; mambosurf.com says to email for info so I'll do that.

I'll just need the dates when available, to plan around when every one else will be there as I'd like to meet them.

My wife prefers something on the nicer side and seeing that I work like 20 hours a day in IT (of the top 10 most hated jobs of 2010, 5 were IT - Yahoo poll) I too concur with my wife.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay but I have the prices. The Hotel rooms for those who would prefer one over a patch of grass are between $80-$100 a night. They have AC, TV breakfast included every morning at 9. The Hotel is right on the beach, like literally the sand is 5 feet away from your door step. Its nothing super fancy but the truth is that you wont be spending alot of time in your room, with there being so many things to do and see you will always be busy.

As for Chris and Prj, we have a massive front yard with multiple camps set up so come on down and we can set you up in one of the tents under a tree with the ocean at your doorstep.
    It can easily be arranged.
Will shoot you more details later if you want about our tent camp.
