Spitfire - Going from a Dominator

    hey guys,

This is my first post here.  I just returned from Bali, and rode a 5'10" Dominator out there.  Overall I loved the board.  It was a bit squirrely in the wind late in the day, but overall a great little board that I felt pretty comfortable on.  I am 5'9 190.  I would say i'm intermediate.  Some solid bottom turns and cutbacks, but nothing crazy.  I'm really trying to step my game up.  I am demo'ed the board, and now want to purchase.  Was thinking the Spitfire would be a good board for me to have more advancement on.  What do you guys think?  I live in Santa Monica and surf all over Malibu and sometimes out front in Venice here.

Again... not a seasoned guy, but definitely want to push myself and had no issues on the 5"10 dominator.  I also have a 6'2 Anderson fish that is great for small days and dinking around.  The spitfire would be my more "advanced" short board.

    Thanks in advance.

The Spitfire is very similar to the Dominator with a little more bite. You can attack the wave a little better rather than flowing from rail to rail with that round tail on the Dom.

The Hellfire is a good option if you want to really step up the performance bar, but it also likes a little better waves too.

    I'm 5'6" 168lbs and ride a 5'8" spit, plenty if flotation even on a 6/5/4 wetsuit.
If you are comfortable on a 5'10" dominator you'll be te same on the spit 5'10"

I am going to say go with the spit .. I don't own a hellfire yet but have owned a couple of dominators in the past ..I have done some things on the spit that have really surprised me and improved my surfing . for more range and more user time stick with the spit as it's more versatile than the hellfire and more performance than the Dom

Just to add from someone that's gone from one to the other...

I had a 5'6 dom for about a month which although caught a lot of waves i did find lack of hold (as a quad) and a little skatey (like it was too floaty for me) I swapped to the 5'6 spitfire couple of weeks back and wow its a completely different board. Mostly had it in head high surf and ridden as thruster but this thing rides better than my 5'10 futura. Really easy to get into waves, drivey, paddles well you name it! defo right choice for me. I can't actually see when i would get back on my 5'10, i rarely have the opportunity to surf over head high so i'm thinking progress everything into the Spitfire and just be a 1 board billy.

I would say one thing and that's the float in the two boards, i had to use a lot of extra effort to get the Dom under waves where as the Spit is just like my other board, i'd say (and this may be an individual case) but the spit i have, i would say is about 27.5 litres not the listed 28.7, which actually works as an advantage!
