hey nikko. please excuse my for butting my way in to this post, but I would recommend the addvance. it has excellent flotation and a wide, stable deck; which is good for small surf. the flotation helps when the waves are slow so when you stand you wont just sink back down into the water and with the wide deck it creates a more stable ride; keeping you straight when you want to go straight and turns when you want it to turn. you should check one out, theyre excellent boards and its definately worth the money. I hope I could help you.

hey chris. you still around :)

i bought a 6'8" alternator for mexico but still need to figure out my longboard situation.

    1) do you have a dealer in MX (puerto vallarta, sayulita area)
    2) i want something for the rollers that can't be caught on shortboards but with more performance than alongboards. i'm thinking an addvance or sweet potato. in both cases you have guides recommending sizing. the thing is i'm assuming i would go as big as possible because i'm only going to surf them in week surf and even the biggest sizes are still less float than a longboard would be. is there a disadvantage to me going max size on the ADD or SP. does it make them not perform right and less than a longboard?. i assume even at the size which is too big according to your charts, i would still have more fun than i would on a 9' longboard which your site suggests. what would you do if you were me and only wanted to take it out on super soft waves.

i need 2 boards down there. i also need a standard performance board. trying to decided between 6'6" hellfire or 6'8" alternator. which do you think would catch waves best? which do you think would have the most performance for turning up and down the face. thanks buying two boards this week :)

Hi Chris! I am looking to possibly buy an advance this week. I have read up on the forums about the breakage problem. Can you give me any stats as to what percentage of the boards break after what time period? It appears, and please correct me, that the problem is crack in outer glass, water inside, foam weakens, then crease, then break. Is that correct? If that is, can you search for and find the leakages under wax easily enough? Can you find it under track top? or is that impossible? or does track top seal and protect that those areas are not a problem? Also, I have been surfing 40 years, am fairly good now, but fat and slow on paddles, LOL, and weigh 240 pounds. I currently ride an 8'3" McCoy Nugget from surf tech. It is fantastic, but I would love something I could turn top to bottom more. Which length Advance is comparable? Also, is it true that you are using a rough guideline of replacing failed boards under 6 months old? 6 months I could stand a break but not 1 to 3 months. :)

    hey chris,

im super pumped. i've just ordered a 5'4 potato through aloha manly.
im in need of fins for it though. i've got a set of future controllers already, but i'd like to know of any other fins which may suit the board? i can't seem to find any info on fins or setups people like, except that you need bigger front fins than usual to help control the wider tail.
    im 6'4, 82kg, and comfortably rode a 5'4 for a trial..

if you could email me at esky_lid@hotmail.com that would be great!

    Thanks,

    Hey Chris,

Can you email me when you get a chance? We've emailed briefly before but I doubt you remember. Two questions for you; when are T-shirts coming out? Second, I'm in Newengland surf from RI to NH (get my boards from Cinnamon Rainbows). I have a 56Sweet p and a 62 Spit. I'm 5,11 and 175. Early intermediate surfer looking to grow. I am thinking I want a 3 board quiver with the sweet and a 62 Alt being the bookends. I'm trying to figure out if I should replace the current spit with a 5 10 spit or a 6 0 Hellfire. I know you're familiar with the waves out here. What's your opinion?

hay chris i purchesed a new fire wire flexfire through ebay still with stickers, rail strips and bubble rap intact and the tail fractured after 3-5 surfs through the the deck just in front of the fins on a floater , i heard it crack so i know this is when it happened, it cracked right through to the core. The wave was head high and sucky (have access to pics of the surf) but a pu board would not have brocken, i say this with confidence as i have been surfing for over 20+ years and working in the surfboard construction industy for 11 years shaping glassing sanding ect. The crack was crack was a single line running across the board with the glass fibers between fibers, there was no depretion and the crack did not travel around the rails. The board was sick, fast and poppy, got me some good kegs. It was to small which supprised me as i ride 5' 11" - 6'2" pu board and belived firewire construction boyuant. fixed board but won't stand up to my surfing any thing you can do 4 me, new board e

Chris: re Hellfire sizing. I've been surfing for 4-5 years, but recently not getting in the water as much as like to. I do like a bit more float so would you recommend a 6'2 Hellfire rather than a 6'4? How does the hellfire go in onshore/messier conditions? I like the idea of a 6'2 I guess I just want to know how well in might go in UK slop?

Hi, I'm looking at getting an SP but am unsure of the size I should get, I was thinking 5'6 or 5'8. I'm 35, 83kgs (184 pounds + 3/2 wettie) been surfing for years, generally surf once a week/fortnight, then on holidays. I’m intermediate but due to injuries over the years am finding these days I take much longer to get up on the board than the average surfer afterwhich my ability is good. Currently I'm riding a 6'4 Maurice Cole Metro (very recently stepped down from a Mal), unsure of the volume but its 6’4 x 21 x 2 3/4). What are your thought's on the size I should get? I've never owned a fish or board under 6'0. Is there much difference in wave catching ability between the 5'6 & 5'8? I really want to be able to compete with the Mal's on small to head high fat (but clean) waves but also want the board to perform relatively well. Do you lose a lot of performance by going from a 5'6 (38.6L) to 5'8 (43L) and in your opinion is the extra foam worth the trade-off? Cheers anth.

hey chris. i've decided to buy a spitfire or dom but have 3 questions to help me decide:

    1) what's the old 7'2" B alternator volume. you posted one for me but it wasn't the same as the board i have. mine says 702_B 3006, 21.5", 2 15/16" #33006. (it actually says 2.5" x 2 15/16" but i assume they left a one out. i measured it and seems pretty close to 21.5.) i'd like to know that float so i can determine what to buy now.

    2) are rapidfire or fst any less likely to break? i think fst is more ding resistant but didn't know that if that translates to breaking.

    3) is there any difference in the foil between spitfire and dominator?

    thanks

trying to decide on an al fuego size. i'm using the sizing chart and am confused. i assume the el fuego would be similar to the dominator on the sizing chart so i'm looking at that since i dont' see one for the el fuego. i'm a 200 lb. beginner and currently surf a 6'10" alternator which is what your chart recommends for me. however, the chart recommends a 6'8" dominator which is way more float than the 6'10" alternator. does that make sense? is there a reason i would want much more float in my dominator (or el fuego) than my alternator. my altern

    Hey Chris,
I had this comment in another discussion, but decided to add it here to make sure you see it:

I just had a fin shop happen to my Dominator in crowded surf this morning (5/27). Totally bummed because this is has been my go-to board for the past year now. I think I might have been in the water for another 30 minutes after getting the chop. I only noticed it when wiping it down and putting it away in the car. The fin chop is on the rail and close to the tail.

I've cleaned all the wax off and I'm letting the board dry out now. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get any water out of there. I've taken this board to the Firewire warehouse in San Diego before to get a delam repaired on the deck. Could I take it back there after it's been dried out to repair this fin chop? Please shoot me an email and let me know if you can help. Thanks.

    Hi Chris

I surf may and september in Hossegor france, I'm looking to get a spitfire as I love the idea of the board. I'm an intermediate surfer looking to score lots of waves and have fun when the conditions are a bit smaller (knee to head high), but at the same time improve my surfing. I'm 6'1 about 85 kgs and can't decide between 6'0 or 6'2. Would there be much difference between the two. I'm going to go for the FST version. Will the 6'2 still be snappy enough for me to improve on and enjoy at the same time? Riding 603 lost f1 at the mo.

Hope to hear from you soon
    Thanks Michael

assuming equal volume does the SP paddle the same or faster than the dominator?

    i surf a 6'8" dom which is 49.5
am considering the 5'10" SP which is 46.8 or 6' SP which is 51.1.
i'd prefer to go shorter if it paddle similar to my dom.

Hey Chris! Did you get your hellfire yet? If so, what do you think? I'm the same size as you and I ride the 6'3 flexfire. Now I want to get a hellfire, just not sure if I want the 5'10 or 6'0.

I want my hellfire to give me lots of speed on waves that are not big/powerfull enough for my flexfire. Like a grovler, but with the potential of allso riding better waves. I'm afraid that if I choose the 5'10 it wan't be performing to my expectations in the smaller stuff (not enough volume). But I'm allso afraid that if I chose the 6'0 it will feel very different from my flexfire (to much volume), thus making the transtition between boards feel weird and my flexfire feel to small when I take it out in better surf. I'm happy with the volume of my flexfire and have no problem catching waves, allthough that thing doesn't exactly padle great with all that rocker.

Anyway. Do you recon the hellfire 5'10 will provide me with way more speed than my flexfire 6'3 in small/average surf?

G'day Chris..., have lived in the Margs area a while now(30 + years) and consider myself to be an intermediate but experienced surfer..., recently snapped my 6'10' Tuff Light at my home break (beachy that can be often be gutsy and largish)...., all my old boards just don't cut any mustard..., time to ungrade I feel !
So..., I weigh about 90 kg and stand 6'1'' and was thinking of a 6'10 dominator.
    What do you reckon.

Hi all...., Some people I've talked to have expressed reservations about the strength of the 'Dominator'..., within more powerful waves...., if I snap my new Dominator what are my options ?
Can these boards be rejoined ? Indeed..., is there some kind of warranty ? I don't mean to be deliberately provocative but it's a lot of money to lay out.
      Regards sandyfreckle.

    Hi Chris,

You guys are brilliant with your assistance to us poor confused FW board buyers.

I've read so many of these comments on the forum that my head is spinning so I thought I would try to ask you in person.

I'm currently wanting to buy a two board FW quiver, thinking of the SP 5'10 for 1-3' mush and either a 6'6 Dom, 6'6 spit or the 6'5 Elf for 3-6'+ better conditions.

Trialed the 6'8 Dom (bit to much board for me) but it stuck the steep takeoffs, flew down the line, felt stable, solid and heaps of fun. Also trialed the 6'5 elf and did things on the wave I had not done in 20years!

Me? 53 year young, 6', 100kg & lower to medium intermediate level surfer. Recently been surfing a 6'10 nugget that got me back into the water after 2yrs as a land lubber and a 6'4 pu fish that got me frustrated because of the low wave count!

If I get the sp for the small stuff which board do you think could cover the 3-6'+ better days the best? I want to advance my surfing & get heaps of waves!!

Hey Chris, I'm looking for a Lost Stealth 5'10. I'll go from Montreal to NY and back next weekend. I found one at Pioneers in Hampton but it's 300 km out of my way. Do you know any shop in NY that might have? or close to NY. I called the shops on FW list - nobody has a 5'10.

i'm a beginning/intermediate surfer more concerned about catching waves and making sections than high performance maneuvers. i surf beach breaks in the 2-8' range that are rarely totally hollow. i love my dominator (as a quad) however i feel like it slides out from under me when i try to do bottom turns or cutbacks on bigger or faster waves. is that bad surfing or do you think that's an inherent problem with trying to surf a dominator in head high steeper waves. i would consider a spitfire if i thought it would help with bottom turns and cutbacks but if it's just me than i'll just get better. (i don't need to change it for big snaps off the lips because i'm not really there yet). i've tried an alternator but missed the speed and stability of the dom and switched back. i'm 6'3" 205 lbs. surfed about 500 days. i surf a 6'8" dominator.

Hi Chris, I posted an enquiry on 'Customer Service Going Forward' but figured that you may not get it due to the size of the forum.

Anyway, I am based in Malaysia and was wondering if you would be able to ship your boards here directly from the factory in Thailand.

I am about 176cm/68-70kg considering 5 11/6 0 Flexfire (Direct Drive), 5 11 Taj model or Lost F1 with custom/stock sprays/boardart. Would like to look at 'cost vs. benefit' to help me decide.

That all sounds good to me Chris.
It'll definitely need to be shipped with the next UK container. I'm guessing with the impending arrivals of the new models it's not going to be that far away anyway!
In just under 5 weeks I'll be submitting my tax return for the previous year and should be getting a decent tax rebate which is going to pay the balance for a new board. Depending on how much deposit I need to lay down I should be good to get that sorted any time soon really. Just need to know the total cost for the RF Alternator really then we can get it confirmed and sort out payment.
    Thanks Chris.

    Hey Prj,
So I have been talking to Mark and the guys at the factory to finalize details on your board. Here is what they have. It will take about 4 to 6 weeks to build, then we have to figure out shipping. I am guessing that you are going to do a standard shipment with orders already going to the UK. If you wanted direct delivery from the factory to you, it's an option, but it will cost over $400, which is pretty inhibiting in my mind. I am still waiting on Myles' response to my request for container deliveries to the UK. You are certainly willing to confirm at any time to start the building of your board, and when you do I'll get you details on how we'll go about payment, but let me know if you have any questions before we finalize everything.

    Cheers

Hey Chris, cheers for the info. The tweaks to the Alternator sound interesting. Is it the smaller sizes being widened because the 6'2"s etc seemed narrower in the nose than the 6'0"? Maybe that's just the way it works, but that's another topic all together!

Anyway, all sounds good to me, I'm guessing the delivery will coincide with a shipment of boards to the UK so I need to time it around that. So I'm guessing that means I need to get the order in before the end of March to make it in time?
All that's left to sort is the money side then? Would I just pay the equivalent of the USD price listed in the CBD? And do I just need to get you $200 to get the ball rolling?
Also what's the deal with requesting the Arbor artwork on a custom?
Thanks Chris, we're getting there! :D

    Hey PRJ,
I believe Mark said that it would be okay for us to build you a board with a roundtail, it just wouldn't be in Europe until summer I believe was his quote, sometime around June, most likely later in the month. We're definitely stoked to hook you up, so let us know. What you're ready, I can get all the final details and you can make the ultimate choice.

    Hope this helps.
