"Exponential improvements in performance can only be achieved through new materials and construction methods which in turn will open up new design opportunities"

I know from previous threads on the other site that the kiteboards were essentially surfboards a bit reinforced on certain areas like the fin and decks. Is there any major difference in shape or construction compared to the surfboards??.

    Hi Iggy
The surf shapes Firewire offer right now are ideal for riding Waves on a kite.

Construction was the final ingredient to complete the mix We've worked to reinforce both the top deck lamination and the internal sandwich construction to handle the added compression of kitesurfing. We feel we've achieved the right balance between flex, weight and durability.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Hopefully you can get your hands on one of these boards.

As a consequence of this, how heavier are the kiteboards compared to the surfboards??

    Hi Iggy
They are coming in at the outside limit of the weight tollerances set for the surfboards. So technically they are within the surfboard spec, but in reality they are about 5% heavier than the average surfboard. This is because we needed an additional sandwich layer in the deck, which not only adds compression strength needed under foot, but stiffened the flex slightly which helps handle the extra speed and chop
