Hi, I am 36 year old, weight 169 pounds and I am an average surfer and kiteboarder.
I currently paddle surf a 6’2 (27L) Byrne six channel surftech, I have began strapeless kiteboarding on it for a start. I also own a twin tip for jumps and stuff. I intend to keep both boards (I also paddle surf on a fish board).
I live on the Mediterranean cost of France where the waves are small on no-wind surfing days and where the wind can blow strong (25-30 knots) on onshore choppy waves windy days…

I want to find the best FW board, that I can use here in France but also take with me on trips, like north of Brazil where I will be surfing and kiting (unstrapped or occasionally strapped on bigger conditions). I looked at the 5’8 with envy, but I don’t want the board to be too much new school for an average surfer like me (as a combat sport professional I am quite fit though). Would that be the best choice for me?

I would use it mainly strapless, but I was thinking to use only the forward strap on choppy water and strong winds and both straps sometimes…
What are FW recommendations regarding tail pads and straps for multiple configuration setup.
Sorry for a long question and rusty english.
    Regards Mich’

    Hey Mich,

Based on the information you provided above I'd suggest the KFE602 (6'2") kiteboard. It's large enough that you'll feel right at home paddling it and still maintains excellent high performance for kiting both strapped or strapless. You could try a DaKine long board pad for the front pad setup and DaKine (or any other brand) tail pad. Then add some DaKine or NSI straps and you should be good to go!
